A new year means more new TV shows to watch! There are several series already set to return in 2023, like The Blacklist, Star Trek: Picard, The Mandalorian, The Gilded Age, and (sob!) the last season of The CW's The Flash, but if you intend to add more spice to your daily entertainment hour, there is a pile of new shows that will premiere in 2023.
Based on USA premiere dates starting from January to March 2023, Red Dot Diva recommends 5 shows that you can add to your watch list. Do note that not all shows and channels are available in Red Dot Island. Paramount Plus is one of them, so you would either have to find your own way to watch these, or pray that they will turn up on either Netflix, Amazon Prime or Disney+ SG.

Finally! The trailer for THE GLASS ONION: A KNIVES OUT MYSTERY, film maker Rian Johnson's sequel to his delicious whodunit movie KNIVES OUT has been released. Detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) is back to solve another murder!

Close friends of tech billionaire Miles Bron (Edward Norton) receive invitations to his private Greek island. The group are shown trying to solve a series of puzzle games (wait, are these clues??). 5 Movies To Watch To Usher In The Year Of The Tiger 2022
The Year of the Tiger has arrived!!! So, HU (虎)-at will you going to be watching over the holidays?
A couple of days ago, Red Dot Diva started bingeing on Netflix's new CG-animated series He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe. The energetic and flashy 10-episode series developed by Rob David, re-imagines the franchise in a futuristic cyberpunk-scifi world. The basic premise of the beloved He-Man characters are still there, but what is best about this show are its intriguing departures, like the gender-bent Krass, who later became Ram Ma'am.
One of the best storylines is the exploration of how this version's Cringer became the hero he was meant to be. It is a major difference from the cartoon of the 80s, where the whiny shivering big cat can be so annoying at times. Cringer of the Netflix reboot always had courage in him, but was declawed and exiled from his tribe, due to his desire to protect his fellow cats.
As Cringer looks mostly like a green tiger with stripes, Red Dot Diva thought it was super auspicious to celebrate this year's zodiac animation - the Water Tiger.
The tiger is also a familiar motif in a number of movies throughout the years. So here are 5 movies that Red Dot Diva thinks would an entertaining way to herald the New Year!
(Note: The movies are in order of the year of their release. You may need to hunt down a DVD/ stream to watch some of these titles!

When you follow the ways in how people consume media in the last 3 decades or so, it is also intriguing to see how much Netflix has evolved from a DVD service company, to a streaming platform and later on, as a producer of its own original shows. As in-person conventions and events have mostly halted, most media companies decided to host their fan outreach in the virtual space.

Netflix's Pacific Rim: The Black Expands The Franchise's Lore in Intriguing Ways
Kaijus, mechas, anime-style action and Idris Elba. That was what made “PACIFIC RIM” the 2013 creature feature directed by Guillermo del Toro, so much fun to watch. And also Idris Elba. Mmmmm, yes ... Red Dot Diva has to mention him twice.
Five years later, the sequel “PACIFIC RIM: UPRISING” did not fare so well. It was missing the magic touch of Guillermo del Toro and screenwriter Travis Beacham. Despite the loud action sequences, the story was flat and souless. Thankfully, Netflix's new anime series “PACIFIC RIM: THE BLACK” sets things right for the franchise.
The anime series is set in Australia, where various kaiju have taken over the continent. After a terrible battle with a bunch of kaijus five years ago, the jaeger pilot parents of siblings Taylor and Hayley decided to leave them and a few other children at a remote natural sanctuary near an abandoned base of operations. They then went off with their jaeger Hunter Vertigo looking for help, with a promise to return. Since that day, the Pan Pacific Defense Corp, who are in charge of the Jaegers, had implemented an initiative called "The Black". What exactly that is, no one really knows.

Animated Musical Over The Moon Reimagines The Legend of Chang'E With Sumptuous Visuals
Every time the Mid-Autumn Festival comes around, Red Dot Diva is awashed with nostalgic childhood memories. She remembers her parents asking her to choose a traditional paper lantern from the nearby provision shop (she usually ends up with a dragon, phoenix or a dog), and then, help her to light the candle in the lantern.
In more than one occasion, someone was not as careful with the matchstick, and the poor lantern ends up in flames, accompanied by the inevitable flood of tears. But more often than not, little Red Dot Diva gets to happily parade around her old neighbourhood's cul-de-sac, carrying her pretty lantern under the light of a full moon.
This year, that same warm, magical feeling is most likely to come from Netflix's animated musical feature OVER THE MOON. The movie is directed by the Oscar Award-winning animator Glen Keane who has gifted us with unforgettable animation in Disney films like Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid and Aladdin. John Kahrs (Paperman) acts as co-director of the film, which is jointly produced by Pearl Studio (Abominable) and Netflix.

The Walking Dead Season 10 Part 2, and Kingdom Season 2 Premiere During COVID-19 Pandemic
As the COVID-19 pandemic is unfolding worldwide in real time, two internationally popular TV shows about a zombie apocalypse, are making their return to our screens. They are part 2 of AMC's THE WALKING DEAD Season 10 and Netflix's KINGDOM Season 2.
With news streaming over the social media about people panic buying at supermarkets, hoarding food and essentials as they try to fend themselves from infection, Red Dot Diva thinks that one can pick up a few lessons on what not to do when watching these zombie shows.
Like why the rush for toilet paper? During an apocalypse, Red Dot Diva is going to gun for mineral water. After all, you can barely last 3 days without water. Also, how is anyone going to be able to cook rice, pasta, instant noodles (not talking about Mamee) without water?
Red Dot Diva also feels it is very cathartic to watch fictional characters deal with the aftermath of an outbreak. You can scream at them in frustration from the comfort of your favourite arm chair, or begin to have faith in humanity again, even though the world is going to sh**.
THE WALKING DEAD SEASON 10 Part 2 - started 24 February 2020, Fox TV Asia
The second part of Season 10 of THE WALKING DEAD, a show based on the comic book series by Robert Kirkman and Tony Moore, premiered recently on Fox channels in the SEA region on 24 February, same day as the U.S. telecast.

Black Mirror Teases Return of Season 5 on Netflix , 5 June 2019
Emmy Award-winning science fiction anthology “Black Mirror” has released a teaser for its 5th season, which will premiere 5 June, exclusively on Netflix.
The inventive show, created by Charlie Brooker, consists of dark tales that unfold in a familiar, yet dystopian, technology-driven world set in the near future. It is this familiarity, the reflection of our basic human flaws, and the plausible scenarios depicted that provide viewers with an uncomfortable sense of paranoia.
Killer robotic dogs? With Boston Dynamics showing off the technological advances with their animal-like bots... Yep! Totally possible. Dating apps that dictating your life, including how long you need to live with someone? Not too far away from reality. Same for people who are crazy... literally, off rocker insane, about raking Likes and approval on social media. With each episode, “Black Mirror” episode, the series takes you on a mostly satirical journey together with androids, augmented consciousness programs, neural implants and more.
In the upcoming season, there will be 3 new, mind-bending stories that star Anthony Mackie, Miley Cyrus, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Topher Grace, Damson Idris, Andrew Scott, Nicole Beharie, Pom Klementieff, Angourie Rice, Madison Davenport and Ludi Lin.
Check out the new trailer:
If this is the first time you have heard of “Black Mirror”, there are already four season out in the wild, plus an interactive instalment called “Bandersnatch”. There is still some time to catch up all of them before the series take us all around the bend again!

Triple Frontier Biceps Ben Affleck, Charlie Hunnam, Garrett Hedlund at Red Carpet Event, Singapore
WOWZA!
Not only was the weather scorching hot yesterday, the area at Marina Bay Sands' Digital Light Canvas rose to a few hundred degrees Celsius in the evening as well.
Why, you ask? Because three-fifths of the Special Ops Boyband aka as Netflix's action thriller-heist-drug cartel war movie called “Triple Frontier” - Ben Affleck, Charlie Hunnam, Garrett Hedland plus producer Chuck Roven - were in town for a red carpet event.
Red Dot Diva was there to check out those hunky biceps and here are some of the details of what went down during those couple of hours.
The fan area opened at about 4 PM for those who had tickets for the event. Unlike other red carpet events, this one seemed pretty chill. The layout was neatly designed with clearly marked out areas for fans to stand in. Security and crew also seemed clear with their instructions given, and there was a generous space for the media folks right in front of the stage.
There was only a handful of fans who were very early. Up till 6 PM or so, there was a still lots of space available for more people to get onto the fan pit. Before the Netflix PR folks arrived, Red Dot Diva was still unsure if she wanted to stand with the fans (better chance of selfies and autographs), or get into the media pit. In the end, she decided to sacrifice the chance for possible (sometimes blurry) selfies, for the opportunity to take clearer pics up close for social media and the RDD blog. You can thank her much much by following her blog and social media accounts. ;)
Check out the striking red carpet, all ready for the stars to walk on. While everyone was waiting, Class 95 DJs The Muttons got everyone warmed up, gave out some swag, and introduced the fans to the “Triple Frontier” trailer.

STGCC 2016: Tom Taylor Reveals How He Plans His Regular Day As A Writer
Dramatist. Screenwriter. Songwriter. Comic Book writer. Best-selling author.
WOW.
Wait. There's more.
Professional Juggler. Fire-eater!
The awards and achievements of rising star Tom Taylor is simply astounding. Comic book fans will be familiar with Tom's works in the DC Comics series "Injustice: Gods Amongst Us", as well as a list of Star Wars comics published by Dark Horse, before the property was handed over to Marvel in 2015.
Tom has also co-created his own graphic novel by Aussie publishing house Gestalt, together with illustrator James Brouwer, called "The Deep: Here Be Dragons". The book, about the Netktons, a family of sea explorers, won Australia's Aurealis Award for Best illustrated book/graphic novel in 2012. "The Deep" is now a Netflix CG animation series, and was recently aired in the USA beginning June 2016.
Other than books, he is also known for his various plays. The short "The Example" is probably the most well-known, and has been performed at homeground Australia, the UK, and even in Red Dot Island's The Esplanade in 2009! "The Example" is about the collision of opinions, prejudices, superstition and feelings of distrust when two people meet at a train station where a bag has been abandoned on the platform. The story has also been adapted into a Gestalt Publishing graphic novel, with Tom roping in the help of artist Colin Wilson.
There certainly must be a multi-coloured cloud of fun, clever and thought-provoking ideas floating in Tom Taylor's brain. So, Red Dot Diva and Glam Bloggers Alliance pal Agent W neural probed Tom's brain to see what makes it tick:

Welcome to "Orange Is The New Black"'s Litchfield Penitentiary Cafetaria: No... No Complaints About The Food!
Hailed by Netflix as one of its most bingeworthy and re-watchable original series, "Orange Is The New Black" (OITNB) the female prison comedy-drama show based on memoirist Piper Kerman's book, just premiered its fourth season last week. According to statistics, about 53% of OITNB fans has re-watched at least one full season of the series.
To create some hype for the series and its new season, Netflix Asia brought Litchfield Penitentiary's Cafeteria right into the heart of Orchard Road. Fans could cure their addiction for two days on 16 and 17 June 2016 when diner & bar Overeasy transformed their Liat Towers branch to the familiar "Orange Is The New Black" women's prison.
If it weren't for Red Dot Diva's geek pal Jas, she would not have known about this interesting promo that was held free of charge, specially for the show's fans. With her fast skillful fingers (*Diva smirkes and wriggles her eyebrows*), she managed to chope their seats for lunchtime on Friday ,17 June.
Besides, Red says she's giving the Red Dot Islanders, with their fussy tastebuds, a second chance:

Netflix's "Daredevil" - Don't Miss This Wonderful Adaptation! - A Review by Wayne Rée
From the announcement of the series creator/ writer Drew Goddard and Steven S. DeKnight as showrunner, to Charlie Cox joining the cast as titular character Matt Murdoch/ Daredevil, the geek community simply couldn't wait for the series to premiere! Added to this was the rousing fan approval when Vincent D'onofrio was confirmed to be Daredevil's main nemesis, Kingpin.
When the series finally aired on 10 April, Red Dot Diva saw that most fans couldn't help but binge-watch all 13 episodes!
Red Dot Diva has only finished watching the first episode of "Daredevil" a few minutes ago and found the series to be dark, intense, visceral, entertaining and very promising. Naturally, much of the promises laid in those gorgeous biceps and abs of Matt Murdoch (Charlie Cox). She really didn't expect the visuals to be that beautiful.

| W00t! Case in point. 'Nuff said |
Although, she really enjoyed (Truth, okay!) Charlie Cox's portrayal of the charming but inwardly seething-angry persona that inhabits Hell Kitchen's vigilante, Daredevil.
Now, Red Dot Diva's geek pal and writer Wayne Rée, who is a ardent Daredevil fan, has watched the entire series. Here is his mainly spoiler-free review of Netflix's "Daredevil":

Netflix Goes Gore-ific With Upcoming Series "Hemlock Grove"
It was a werewolf transformation like she has never seen before.
Gruesome, bloody and yet, oh so beautiful. In fact, it was a painfully realistic transformation - if werewolves do exist in the real world.
"Hemlock Grove" is a new supernatural-murder-mystery set in a Pennsylvannia steel mill town, starring Famke Janssen, Bill Skarsgard, Landon Liboiron, Penelope Mitchell and Dougray Scott. The 13-episode series is produced by gore-meister Eli Roth and premieres on April 19, 2013, only on Netflix.
