DC FanDome's Guest Lineup Is Like WHOA... But So Were the Layoffs in WarnerMedia

The global 24-hour virtual fan experience called DC FanDome is set to roll out on August 22 (Sunday August 23, starting at 1 AM Singapore time) with a list of guests like WHOA.

The teaser reel that announced the talent roster was super long and varied, consisting of comic book creators, celebrities from the movies and TV series, those working behind the scenes, the people from WB Games, as well as the presenters and hosts.

Take a look at the guest announcement video here as the over 300 names scroll on and on.. and on...

Almost anyone you can think of who is involved with DC's properties at some point will be making an appearance at DC FanDome. That includes fan favourites like Gal Gadot, Robert Pattinson, Zachary Levi, Margot Robbie, Ezra Miller, James Gunn, Caity Lotz and Grant Gustin. Furthermore, with all the hullabaloo about the director's cut of JUSTICE LEAGUE, hardcore fans will also be eagerly lapping up whatever Zack Snyder would have to say about the movie.

Comic book talent (whom Red Dot Diva considers to be the real superstars) like Jim Lee, Brian Michael Bendis, Grant Morrison, Tom King, Mark Waid, G. Willow Wilson and many others will also be involved with the event. In fact, Jim Lee recently released another sneak peek on the inspiration and design of the DC FanDome map that is centered on the trinity - Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman.

WarnerMedia Restructuring and Layoffs

The hype of DC FanDome's guest list announcements and sneak peeks was, however, overshadowed by news of mass layoffs at WarnerMedia about 4 days ago.

The major restructuring of the entertainment company hit about 600 staff with Warner Bros. taking most of the hit, according to The Hollywood Reporter. DC Entertainment, where the staff of the comics arm are employed, suffered the loss about one-third of their editorial team. The company's collectible and merchandise manufacturing division. DC Direct was shut down.

As WarnerMedia continues to consolidate its services and focus on the HBO Max international streaming platform, the layoffs also cut a large swatch in Warner Bros' own streaming service, DC Universe.

On all counts, it was brutal.

Part of the aggressive streamlining and cost-cutting is most probably due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic that was caused massive delays in production schedules and releases. The other is a more worrying thought that the new owners AT&T,may be more interested in milking DC's various IPs, rather than continuing to support new and creative content, especially in the comics area, in the long run.

Can DC Comics survive in the long run?? After all, it is the main source of the many stories and  adaptations that we love and hold dear. So, for the sakes of creativity and imagination, Red Dot Diva hopes so!
