Archaia Goes Greek with "Immortals"

As a child, Red Dot Diva was besotted with the various stories from Greek mythology. They were abridged versions, of course, but whenever she saw a book about them at the old National Library, she nabbed it.

Not only were there all these weird and interesting gods, monsters and creatures, their world saw various heroes going through such wondrous and marvellous adventures that became fertile ground for Red Dot Diva's imagination.

When she grew up, she appreciated how hunky those Grecian warriors actually were. Which of course, added much meat to that growing imagination. Heh.

The epic blockbuster "Troy" in 2004 was a really good attempt in bringing back some Greek into Hollywood. Who can forget Eric Bana's gallantly sacrificial Hector? Red Dot Diva can't say the same about the recent Grecian heroes movie "Crash Clash of the Titans" though, which was an awfully loud let-down. BTW, no need to draw "300" into the comparison, because in Red Dot Diva's case, all those abs just simply blinded her sense of judgement. *g*

Anyway, Tinseltown isn't gonna stop churning out more Greek mythology movies it seems. "Immortals" - a Universal Pictures and Relativity Media movie directed by Tarsem Singh ("The Fall", "The Cell"), is set for international release in 3D in November this year. Tarsem is the dude behind that famous gladiators Pepsi commercial that ran with Queen's "We Will Rock You". Remember? It's the one with Britney Spears, Beyonce and Enrique Iglesias as the emperor?

Well, this time he directed all these pretty people in "Immortals". Check out some of the key ones:
Theseus - Henry Cavill (who is also new Superman! Check out pretty abs in pic above!)
Phaedra - Freida Pinto
Poseidon - Kellan Lutz
Zeus - Luke Evans
Athena - Isabel Lucas
Ares - Daniel Sherman
Starvos - Stephen Dorff
King Hyperion - Mickey Rourke (ok, not as pretty but still pretty awesome!)

The movie is loosely based on the story of Theseus and how he battled bloodthirsty Hyperion to save mankind from his war against humanity. And yes, there will be a Minotaur!

One of the best things about this movie is that it will crossover to the graphic novels arena as well.

At this weekend's Wondercon, indie publishing company Archaia announced that, in partnership with Relativity Media, they will be putting out the hardcover prequel graphic novel to "Immortals" in September 2011. The book will be focusing on some of the backstories of the movie's characters, written and illustrated by some of the big names in the comics industry!

.... David Mack (Kabuki), Ron Marz (Star Wars comics, Beyond, Witchblade), Dennis Calero (Dark Tower, Heroes, Devil Inside) and Ben Templesmith (30 Days of Night, Fell) are those who will be involved with the graphic novel.

.... Ex-Marvel editor, Nathan Cosby will check in as editor for the graphic novel too!

A series of "Immortals" movie posters were also unveiled at Wondercon. Red Dot Diva especially loves the look given for Athena (Isabel Lucas) - strong and beautiful. Check the others out at Movieweb.com!

Also shown during the convention was the "Immortals" trailer but since it's not available online, Red Dot Diva doesn't know what the movie's look or feel is like yet.

Despite the horde of pretty people on screen, she hopes "Immortals" the movie doesn't stonecold fail like a beheaded Medusa! With the track record for Greek mythology movies, the odds can fall either way.

So, that makes it all the more necessary for Red Dot Diva to get her pervy paws on that Archaia prequel book, don't ya think?
