Singapore Comic Con (SGCC) 2022 - What To See And Do This Weekend (10 & 11 December)

Singapore Comic Convention (SGCC) will open its doors at Sands Expo & Convention Centre this weekend, 10 & 11 December 2022, from 10 AM to 8 PM! The hottest, vibiest pop-culture party of the year is spread over two levels this year at Level 1 and Basement 1.

This may be the first time you will be attending SGCC. Or, maybe you are short of time and do not managed to work out your convention strategy yet. Don't worry. Red Dot Diva offers five suggestions of what you can and do at the convention!

MEET YOUR FAVOURITE COMIC BOOK CREATORS

There is a bumper number of international comic book guests at this year's SGCC - over 40 of them in fact! This includes those on the official guest list, like award winning artist Lee Bermejo, Eisner Award-winning writer James Tynion IV, artists Mitch Gerads, Martin Simmonds, Glenn Fabry, and Werther Dell'edera, just to name a few.

Creators from the region are also represented. Local veterans like Johnny Lau, Sonny Liew and Stanley “Artgerm” Lau, Malaysian artists Boey, Alan Quah and Kael Ngu are listed as guests at the convention. Under the Next Comic Art umbrella of comic book creators, a Pinoy contingent will be here too, with TRESE co-creator Kajo Baldisimo, and artists Harvey Tolibao and Mico Suayan, all set to meet their new and long time fans.

Red Dot Diva also recommends that fans check out the work of talented women artists like Quinatasya, Zu Orzu, and Sozomaika.

Marvel's Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski is also returning to our shores. As expected, he will be busy doing portfolio reviews during the convention.

If you are already an avid comic book reader, gather your comics and get them signed by these wonderful guests. And if you are new to comics, visit one or two of these creators at their booths, and get to know more about their books. You might find something interesting to add to your reading list!

CATCH TRANSFORMERS: EARTHSPARK SCREENING ON MAIN STAGE

Nickelodeon Asia will be premiering an all-new original animated series called TRANSFORMERS: EARTHSPARK on November 28. The show introduces a new and special generation of Transformers robots – they are the first to be born on Earth! Episodes will be available on weekdays at 3:25 PM on Singtel TV channel 240.

Do not miss the screening of the first two episodes of TRANSFORMERS: EARTHSPARK on the main stage at the following times:
Sat, 10 Dec - 1:30 PM
Sun, 11 Dec - 3:00 PM

The first 100 attendees per day will also get an exclusive Nickelodeon TRANSFORMERS: EARTHSPARK totebag!

The session on Saturday, 10 December also includes a live virtual panel with the series' voice cast - Benni Latham, Jon Jon Briones and Diedrich Bader.

TONY WONG ART EXHIBITION

For the manhua lovers out there, here's a rare chance for you to meet The Godfather of Hong Kong Comics Exhibit, Tony Wong (also known as Wong Yuk-long)! He will be doing scheduled meet and greet sessions at 3 - 4 PM on both days of the convention.

At his dedicated exhibition space, fans of his wuxia manhua, like his creations ORIENTAL HEROES (龙虎门) and WEAPONS OF THE GODS (神兵玄奇), can admire his art pieces up close and, perhaps, even take them home.

BUY MERCH FROM INDIE CREATORS AT ARTIST ALLEY

The Artist Alley is the heart and soul of a comic convention. In this section, you will get to meet the indie creators who pour part of themselves into their art and crafts. It is the best place to make new friends and connect with the art community.

Red Dot Diva recommends a few Artist Alley booths for those looking for something unique.

* Seth Adams and Joie Goh will have their self-published comic SNOW OWL available for sale. Seth has also exclusive Psylocke art prints, and will be taking a limited number of commissions. (Booth L1-AA76)
* Siblings Lunaliliputian and Yumu Arts are boothing together. Lunaliliputian has a range of resin based accessories and postcards, while Yumu Arts has lovely artwork and cute handmade dolls. (Booth L1-AA50)
* Local cartoonist Edison Neo will have commission slots available, but what you need to get are his self-published comics SNAKE CLAWS and NO-BRAINER! (Booth L1-AA05)
* Bluetoaster (Bea Gomez) from the Philippines will be offering art prints, Meh-rit badges, Daruma pins, and zines. (Booth L1-AA61)
* Meet the indie comic creators - Jay Ignacio, Olan Amago, Bambi Eloriaga-Amago and Paolo Herras - from the Philippines at Komiket's booth. (Booth L1-AA29)

Since it is the festive season, why not support an indie artist, and buy some presents for your family and friends?

You can check out the list of Exhibitors at SGCC's website.

ON NOM NOM AT LEVEL B1 - MANNA FOR THE GEEKS

After rushing about at the convention show floor, you are bound to get hungry (hopefully, not hangry!).

At SGCC 2022 POP CULTURE FOOD ZONE (Level B1), there are food stalls who will be ready to feed you with their pop-culture inspired meals. These booths include Blanco Court Beef Noodles, Aboocha, Cat & Fiddle, and Liho Tea.

Competitive eater Zermatt Neo will also be downing as many bowls of Blanco Court's beef noodles as he can in 15 minutes. Watch him attempt his amazing feat on Saturday, 10 Dec at 5 PM!

Red Dot Diva says that these are just a glimpse of what will be happening at SGCC 2022. There are many more activities you can try, like tabletop gaming like Dungeons and Dragons (Level B1), meeting cosplay guests at 18 Underground's booth (B2-A03), and enjoying photo opportunities at the Star Wars fan group booths (501st Legion/ Rebel Legion/ Mando Mercs and Fightsaber)!

Fans of returning guests, official Disney artist James C. Mulligan, and lifestyle brand guru Simone Legno of Tokidoki, will also get the chance to meet them, and nab more of their art and merchandise.

No matter how you decide to enjoy SGCC 2022, remember to be kind, and be safe!

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Tickets must be purchased online via Klook. There will be no ticketing booths on site!

All kids below 12 years enter for FREE! (As long as they are accompanied by a ticket holding adult.)
