SG Toy Con 2022 (16 to 18 December) - A Shopping Haven For Local Toy Model Collectors

The SG Toy Con is the event that toy model collectors have been waiting for. The marketplace, organised by Masterpiece Collectibles and Toyz Network, returns for the 2nd year.

SG Toy Con specialises in resin and diecast toy transport and vehicle models, like buses, cars and airplanes. The event runs from now till tomorrow, Sunday (16 to 18 December 2022) at Visual Arts Centre, Dhoby Ghaut. So, if you are into such collectibles, you still have time to head down to the venue!

Red Dot Diva had a sneak peek of the show yesterday. The event is free to attend, but the lines waiting to get inside are very long. The snaking queue spanned from the entrance all the way to Dhoby Ghaut MRT. Red Dot Diva did not even realise that there are so many local toy model collectors!

Many of the local-themed models, including our ubiquitous SBS Transit buses, the SCDF ambulances and police cars, can be found at Masterpiece Collectible's own booth. They are amazing to look at - so intricately detailed. Red Dot Diva could feel the love poured into making these designs.

The popular vendor Automodels Singapore are back with many items offered at a deep discount. They also specialise in model fighter planes, which will also be sold at discounted price. Then, there are also a booth by Hong Kong-based ERA Car with their range of diecast models, including the sexy metallic fuchsia 1:64 Lexus LC500.

An interesting booth is by a logistics company called Bok Seng. They also make large-scale crane models as part of their business, and are also offering these to consumers. The models are also moveable, e.g. the crane can be extended just like one in real life!

For those who love building desktop dioramas, you can get your supplies from Dream Customs. The vendor has diorama mats of bus interchanges and carparks for diehard collectors, as well as specially designed Diorama Acrylic Lightbox series called ハコHako2.0. The young dudes at the booth told Red Dot Diva that soon they will have versions of these casings with wireless lighting! At the show, you can add to the festive feelz in your home, by grabbing a limited edition (50 pcs only) of their Christmas-themed Hako2.0.

Standing out against all the toy model booths is Happibox, who is well known for their range of blind boxes with kawaii figurines. There are cute designs with popular IPs like One Piece and Astro Boy, plus quirky ones like What The Man Food Blind Box series.

Don't miss heading down to SG Toy Con 2022 this weekend. Whether you're a toy model collector noob or veteran, it is a great stop to nab that extra special item for your collection. Or, perhaps, you need to buy some festive gifts for your family and friends.

Red Dot Diva learned that most of the eagerly sought after limited edition items were gone within a few hours after doors opened on Day 1. So, perhaps, when SG Toy Con returns in 2023, you could consider saving up to get the VIP early-bird access pass, which would come with a goodie bag!

Happy toy shopping!!
