MGCC 2012: Comics and Cosplay Fun For Malaysian Geeks!

Red Dot Diva thinks it is high time fellow comics/ cosplay lovers across the Causeway get their share of creative geeky fun!

The Malaysian Games and Comics Convention (MGCC) is all set to kick off on May 19th and 20th at the Damansara campus of KDU University College (KDU)! And some pretty cool guests and activities have already been lined up for the weekend.

Homegrown comic artist Billy Tan has been announced as one of the VIP guests. Billy began working with Marvel in the 1990s, and his various artwork can be found in the "Thor Vol.1", "New Avengers Vol.1", "Marvel Knights: Spiderman Vol.1" and "Uncanny X-Men Vol.1".

The other VIPs are Marvel artists Leinil Yu and Carlo Pagulayan, famous cosplay/ lifestyle photographer Jay Tablante as well as popular international cosplayer Alodia Gosiengfiao.

Datuk Lat (creator of the classic and endearing "Lat" series) is also expected to make an appearance during the convention at an industry panel. He has also been slated as one of the guests of the Anugerah Pekomik 2012 - Malaysia comic industry's equivalent of the Harvey Awards.

As in all other comic conventions, there will be the exhibition booths + an artist alley (known as Indie Valley), workshops, panels and signing sessions with the guests. Homegrown Malaysian comics outfit, Gilamon Studio will also be showing off previews of their new titles.

What's special at MGCC though, is a master class on cosplay photography by Jay Tablante on May 18th - just before the convention kicks off. Red Dot Diva has attended a short panel session held by Jay when he was at Red Dot Island for a day's event. (Read the blog article right here!) Jay is a friendly, animated personality and is very passionate about his work. And Red Dot Diva says that it is definitely worth your precious time to see him at work!

Cosplayers can also submit their applications to become a model for Jay. The winner will win a series of headshots taken by Jay himself. What a cool prize!

That's not all. As the convention's full name suggests, MGCC 2012 is not just about comics and cosplay. Creators and gamers are invited to see if they are able to design their very own game at 24-hour GameDevThon.

Red Dot Diva guesses that more even more cool details about MGCC should be forthcoming within the few weeks leading up to the weekend.

As it is, it already seems like a whole lot of fun in store!

MGCC is a collaboration between the Malaysian comics creators association, PeKOMIK, the Malaysian Chapter of International Game Developers Association and creative consultancy Banshee Creative Sdn. Bhd.
