Singapore Comic Con (SGCC) 2019 - David Mack Returns, Lineup Includes Jim Mahfood, John Layman, Tik Ka and Koh Hong Teng

The guest list for Singapore Comic Con (SGCC) 2019 is getting better and better!

In the latest news on the pop-culture convention's guest lineup, there will be fan favourites returning to Red Dot Island, like David Mack, Mirka Andolfo, and James C. Mulligan, as well as first-timer guests Jim Mahfood, Alexander Iacarrino and John Layman together with Asian-based creators Koh Teng Hong, Peach MoMoKo, Tikka from the East and Michael Sng.

It is always a joyous time of year when David Mack decides to return to our local comic convention. He has built up a loyal fan base in this region, and his booth is always busy!

David Mack is well known as the creator of the KABUKI graphic novel series, and as the co-creator of Marvel character Echo from the Daredevil comics. His beautiful brush strokes can be seen in varied and high profile projects like JESSICA JONES, FIGHT CLUB 2 and FIGHT CLUB 3, AMERICAN GODS, and Dynamite's new series released this year, XENA: WARRIOR PRINCESS.

David was also involved with the exceptional, Emmy-nominated opening title sequence for Marvel TV Series “JESSICA JONES”, as well as the concept design, artwork and sequence for “CAPTAIN AMERICA: WINTER SOLDIER” together with with Sarofsky Designs. Fans of Showtime series “DEXTER” will be familiar with his art in the Early Cuts episodes, and noticed a his recognisable artwork featured in the series episodes.

Diva Popped Into The Illustrations Arts Fest Marketplace at LaSalle (29 October 2016)

Over 70 artists took over LaSalle College of the Arts' Campus Green last weekend (29 to 30 October 2016) promoting and selling their creative works during the inaugural Illustrations Arts Fest run by Organisation of Illustrators Council (OIC) and the Puttam School Of Film & Animation at LaSalle. According to OIC, there were about 35 alumni and current students of LaSalle who set up booths at the marketplace, and the rest were indie creators and professional artists.

When Red Dot Diva and her friends arrived at the venue at about 2 PM on the first day of the fair, it already felt like a jostle at some of the narrower walkways.

Nobrow Press' booth, which was located at the front end, saw its fair share of interested buyers. Their colourful books carried a distinctively European style, and she overheard from the lady manning the booth that many titles were selling out fast.

Bookfest Singapore 2011: Calling All Book and Comic Lovers!

Bookfest Singapore 2011 kicks off at Suntec Convention Centre, Halls 601 - 603 this Friday, 18 November.

Just in perfect timing too, Red Dot Diva notes. This weekend is the start of the super long stretch of year-end school holidays for the kids and teenagers here, so she expects that the event will attract thousands of people.

The largest and most popular book festival on Red Dot Island will continue to showcase a wide and varied collection of books and publishers from around Asia. There will be English and Chinese titles, assessment books, music, stationery and gifts offered at great prices during the fair, as well as panels, appearances by local and overseas authors and on-stage performances.

In addition, there will be something very special this year.

"Gone Case" Creators Answer Diva's Questions

Think local and one may haplessly have Jack Neo's movies in mind, as well as the incessantly repetitive Channel 8 Chinese serial dramas. Or even worse, have mental images of that *gasp* gratingly annoying Singlish-spouting contractor who's "best in Singapore, JB and some say Batam".

Therefore, it is with much relief, that Red Dot Diva is now able to replace these mental pictures with a realistic yet heartwarming story that's identifiably local.

The story she is referring to is the graphic novel "Gone Case" written by Dave Chua and illustrated by Koh Hong Teng.

The graphic novel, which was launched at STGCC 2010, is based on the book by Dave Chua, which was first published in 1997. The book received the commendation award at the Singapore Literature Prize 1996.

Always on the look out for a refreshing read, Red Dot Diva got to know of the locally-created graphic novel "Gone Case" from a few blog articles around the time of STGCC 2010.

Unfortunately, because she was busy doing a one-diva-show during STGCC, she missed grabbing a copy of "Gone Case" at the booth hosted by writer Dave Chua and artist Koh Hong Teng. So, she reminded herself on her frequently updated to-do list, that she should get a copy of the graphic novel after the STGCC weekend.

It was only after Christmas that Red Dot Diva managed to grab herself a copy of "Gone Case", and after reading just three pages into the graphic novel, she was hooked.
