STGCC 2015: Meet Australian Writer James Gilarte at Artist Alley!

While scrolling through the list of peeps who will be exhibiting at this year's STGCC Artist Alley, the Glam Bloggers Alliance noticed an unfamiliar Aussie name.

All that was stated in the blurb on STGCC's website was: "James Gilarte - Australian Comic Book Writer of series such as Vengador, A Fractured Mind, Time Vox & more."

As it is very unusual for Aussie creators to make their way to STGCC by themselves, Red Dot Diva did some mini research on James Gilarte.

She found out that he has written a comic series called "Vengador" that features a teen by the name of Eric Martin who adopts a vigilante-style alter-ego to fight corruption and injustice in his city.

Supanova Perth 2013 Part 2 - Meeting Comics Legend Chris Claremont and Artist Alex Saviuk

Not only did Luke Caporn get to meet comic artist George Perez at the Supanova Perth convention recently.

He also got to meet a legendary creator and writer - Chris Claremont, as well as comic artist Alex Saviuk - best known for his particularly long and regular work with the Spider-man character.

Supanova Perth 2013 Part 1 - The Infectious Exuberance of George Perez

Things all pop-culture, geek and comics have been descending like hot lava in Australia for the last couple of years.

As a convention organizer, Supanova has been able to draw in the big name guests and crowds across the continent. The most recent Supanova convention was held at the Claremont Showgrounds in Perth.

Red Dot Diva's Aussie contact and hardcore geek/collector Luke Caporn attended the convention and has submitted an interesting and detailed report of the rundown of events.

Luke's report will be featured in four parts. (Yes, it's that detailed! But Red Dot Diva guarantees that it will be an enjoyable read!)

SIFF 2011 - Charming And Quirky "Griff The Invisible"

Red Dot Diva has to admit, that being a major "True Blood" fan, it was Ryan Kwanten's name that first drew her to watch the indie film "Griff The Invisible" at the Singapore International Film Festival (SIFF) 2011.

She hasn't even heard of the movie before but the synopsis and trailer of the Aussie-made movie (directed by Leon Ford) seemed charming enough.

Partially anticipating an underdog turned superhero story like how most American superheroes tend to begin their gigs, Red Dot Diva was pleasantly surprised to find that "Griff The Invisible" was more of a gentle but twisted love story that thrives in the bubble of childlike imagination.

Socially inept dreamer Griff, is a shipping clerk by day, and bad-assed black-and-yellow latex-clad superhero by night. After work, Griff spends most of his lonely existence back at his small apartment scanning blinking monitors and cries for help with a heroic aim to "uphold justice and to defend the innocent".

Words… they fail me. Well, almost.

So where to start?

My memories and thoughts are jumbled so it is hard to figure out where everything really started and ended.

The first thing I remember was arriving at the venue, The Brisbane Entertainment Center on 3rd December, and checking into the cloak room. I was organizing everything I needed, including the Christmas presents (Australian Animal shot glasses for the band) and cards I had picked out earlier that day for the band. I also had a beautiful and masculine Sagittarius Necklace for Linkin Park member, Brad’s birthday.

Jess (one of my best friends - you will hear about her in this account) and I packed away and clocked in our things, passed security proceeding to bolt up the stairs to the volunteering area where we met up with Lyndon. Lyndon, who is not much older than me, is head volunteer for the Music For Relief (MFR) booth. He did a head count, only about 9 of us - Jess and I being the only girls.
