Get on Facebook Live for AsiaPac Books' Singlit Den Online Event on 17 May 2020

Yesterday, local publisher Asiapac Books kicked off Singlit Comics Den together with collaborators Singapore Comic Con (SGCC), Kult and Buy SingLit.

The inaugural online event this weekend (16 and 17 May 2020) consists of a list of workshops by local comic book creators as well as live streams of book launches and meet and greets. It is such a great way to help the community remain connected with each other during the Covid-19 Circuit Breaker.

For Sunday's (17 May) schedule, there will be a series of free live streams via Facebook:

1400 hrs - Meet the creators: Sacred Guardians Singa
1500 hrs - Comic book launch: Elizabeth Choy
1600 hrs - Making comic books with Asiapac Books
1700 hrs - Discover the "POP" within you with Singapore Comic Con
1800 hrs - Launch party for Comix.sg, Singapore’s new online directory for comic creators

Red Dot Diva is especially interested in the one relating to Sacred Guardians Singa, our first local tokusatsu series by tokuAsia which is in progress right now. As everyone knows, it is no mean feat to kickstart a local production of such a scale, and have a superhero that stays true to our South-east Asian roots. For the production company to have been able to launch a sleek concept trailer, as well as keep the project going is such an achievement.

During this time of Circuit Breaker, tokuAsia has also been doing live streams on Facebook about the different aspects of Sacred Guardian Singa. Recently, fans got to chat with the producers, concept art team, and actors Kasimir Poh and Kris Mavericko.

In addition to the one held during Singlit Den Online later, there will be a two more video chats with the tokuAsia team:

May 20, 1530 hrs - "Singa" as a brand
May 23, 1430 hrs - Cast Hangout #2 - meeting the leading ladies of the series Dorothy Leong and Sherly Devonne Ng

What's even more magical is that the Sacred Guardians lore has become so unique and expansive, that there will be a prequel about these superheroes and villains in comic book form! The cover of the comic book was announced a

The launch of SACRED GUARDIANS (written by Aydeel Djoeharie and illustrated by Alan Bay) will be celebrated during the Singlit Den Online session at 1400 hours. Don't forget to join the party!!!

The other event Red Dot Diva will be checking out is the one hosted by Singapore Comic Con (SGCC) featuring special guest, Samarasketch. Samarasketch is an illustrator and comic book artist whose dream job is to work for DC Comics. Her drawings focus on women characters and look bold, colourful and fun!

The SGCC session will be an AMA of sorts, so feel free to ask the team any questions about the local pop-culture convention, how they aim to promote Singlit, amongst any other juicy questions you may have!

Send your nosy questions via Facebook Messenger to SGCC, or email info@singaporecomiccon.com with the subject: "Questions for SGCC @ SingLit Comics Den". Fans who asked their top 5 favourite questions will win a goodie bag worth over S$50!

SGCC has also launched an online directory called "Shop From Home", so that fans can still get their hands on geeky merchandise and products promoted by the convention's past exhibitors during Circuit Breaker.  The e-commerce sites listed include companies like SaberMach, Books Kinokuniya and Poster Hub to artists like Milkcananime, Purrballs, Scotts Collectables and Seth Adams.

To up the ante though, Red Dot Diva  wonders if it is possible for SGCC to organise a mini virtual convention while things remain uncertain regarding large group events. Tickets for virtual one-on-one meet and greets, and special webinars with well known international creators could be purchased by fans, with part of the proceeds going to a local charity. Perhaps this would be an opportune moment to get some celebrities on board too! It would be a nice way to keep interest for the local convention high while helping people in need.

What do you all think?
