Directed by Gareth Edwards ("Godzilla"), the live action space adventure "Rogue One" is a spin-off from the main Star Wars story line. In this standalone film, a team of heroes from the Rebel Alliance are sent on a dangerous mission to steal the plans of the Death Star.

Here's a quick run-down of the ragtag band of rebels.

First up is the no nonsense leader Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones). She's determined, she's tough and she has been through helluva lot. After all, her father Galen Erso (Mads Mikkelsen) has been held captive by the Empire, and was the one who helped them build the super-weapon.

Red Dot Diva has been looking forward to watch "Rogue One" ever since the synopsis was revealed. Yes! A take-charge female lead and a mean fighter to boot, even if she is known to be quite reckless. (Also, when will the media, corporate merchandising heads ever start to realize that Star Wars is just not for the boys and men? Red Dot Diva is side-eyeing you, Uniqlo SG.)

Rebel Intelligence officer Captain Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) is tall, dark and handsome. *le sigh* Of course, other than all these attractive attributes, Cassian is a well-trained spy with a slew of useful contacts in the Galaxy. He is assigned to the mission so that someone with a calmer personality could keep an eye on Jyn Erso.

Captain Andor's loyal companion and best friend is a re-programmed Imperial security droid called K-2SO (voiced by Alan Tudyk). K-2SO now fights for the Rebellion, and according to Alan Tudyk at Star Wars Celebration Europe 2016, K-2SO is very honest even if he is not all there after the memory wipe. "He just says whatever he thinks," says Alan Tudyk.

Blind warrior Chirrut Îmwe (Donnie Yen) is from the planet Jedha, a holy land of the Jedi and believers of the Force . Although Chirrut is not a Jedi, he is deeply spiritual and is a strong believer of the Order's ways and the Force.

Chirrut's buddy is Baze Malbus (Jiang Wen), a freelance assassin. Unlike Chirrut, Baze is more pragmatic and is more interested in protecting his friend at all costs.

In any crew on a mission, there's a need for a pilot, right? That's where Bodhi Rook (Riz Ahmed) comes in. He used to fly for the Empire but now puts his technical skills to use for the Rebel Alliance. The mission gets Bodhi wound up into a nervous ball of anxiety and he has to gather his courage to fight for the cause.

Veteran fighter Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker) is a familiar character for those who have watched the Clone Wars TV series. His resistance cell was one of the earliest fighters which formed the Rebel Alliance. Even though he has lost much in his many battles, Saw Gerrera still sees the reasons to fight for his notion of freedom very clearly, and these sometimes involves terrorist-style attacks.

In stories where there is a battle between good and evil, a strong bad guy character is what makes the experience even more enjoyable. Deliciously wonderful villains are Red Dot Diva's thing. With his furrowed brow, perpetually ominous don't-you-dare-mess-with-me glower, and oh! that glorious flowing white cape, Director Orson Krenic (Ben Mendelsohn) looks like a villain Red Dot Diva could love. He's worked his way higher up the Imperial food chain and no one is going to stop him from getting the Death Star project completed.

Of course, there are other fan favourite characters who will be making an appearance in "Rogue One" as well. You can check them out in this movie trailer!

As you can see, the look and feel of "Rogue One" is tonally different from the Star Wars trilogies. It looks more intense, grittier...  and more like a spy/ war movie. Red Dot Diva likes that the cast is diverse, and she is all geared up to have another ride in the galaxy far far away. Except for one problem.

Red Dot Diva expects she will sorely miss would be the familiar refrains of a John Williams-penned soundtrack. In "Rogue One", the soundtrack is scored by Academy Award winner Michael Giacchino (The "Star Trek" reboot movies, "Zootopia", "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol", "Super 8").

So, are you excited about "Rogue One"? Which characters are you looking forward to meet the most?
