Singapore Comic Convention 2021 Guests Include Lee Bermejo, Martin Simmonds and Cheah Sinann

Do you realise, that Singapore Comic Convention (SGCC) starts this Friday, 3 December 2021? For an event that attracted over 50,000 attendees in 2019, this year's event is very low key. There are a few possible reasons for this. The convention has been taken over from Reed Exhibitions Singapore by a new event company called Generation Experience, and the show will run only on a virtual format. Generally, people are getting weary of staring at a screen after more than a year of Zoom and Google meetings. It is just not the same as an in-person gathering where connections and conversations happen in real time. And Red Dot Diva is sure that most of us sorely miss our annual geek huddle.

But still, the show must go on. At least something is happening, right? There have already been a few guests announced for the online panels, so if you are a huge fan of any of them, do remember to register for SGCC. Registration is FREE!!

Singapore Comic Convention 2021 Opens For Registration, And It's Free!

After having to cancel the event last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Singapore Comic Convention (SGCC) is back with an online format that will run from 3 December 2021 to 3 January 2022. The convention is still part of the Singapore Media Festival hosted by hosted by the Infocomm Media Development Authority.

Registration for SGCC 2021 Online is open right now on their website at www.singaporecomiccon.com, and it is free!

SDCC 2014's Hotel Registration: Another Hurdle Completed, The Wait Begins

Arrrgh. San Diego Comic-Con Hotel Lottery = Even More Stressful Than Pre or Open Registration.

Just over an hour ago at 9 AM PST, there was a whole lot of nerves when the Travel Planners online registration portal for downtown hotel bookings was finally opened.

For the week leading up to the hotel registration, Red Dot Diva was busy hunting down those (very very) rare male virgins for blood sacrifices to the SDCC gods. Also, with @eserei27 at the helm, Red Dot Diva collaborated with her convention roomies by discussing on their strategies, agreeing on the 6 hotels they desired, and got familiarized with the layout of the booking form.

The irony is that most of her roomies are already planning on camping out on Hall H or Ballroom 20 lines, but felt that staying in the downtown hotels would be "more convenient". Strange, but true.

SDCC 2014: A Pretty Smooth Pre-Registration

A major hurdle of the San Diego Comic-Con registration process was cleared yesterday.

From the looks of it, the new pre-registration process went on pretty smoothly.

With the ample two-hour time block for people to login to the EPIC waiting room and assigning random queue numbers to those there, the horrible server outages of previous years were more or less resolved.

Red Dot Diva noticed significantly fewer frustrated cries of people unable to login at all, even though there were a number who said they had been booted out of the waiting room or faced error messages. It was also interesting to point out that the waiting room queue numbers allocated were indeed truly random. Some people who entered the waiting room later ended up being near the front of the actual ticket purchasing process. So, as long as one managed to log into the waiting room, it was really all The Hunger Games "reaping" like.

SDCC 2014: Countdown To Pre-Registration Day On 8 February!

Tick tock, tick tock...

After a long long looooonnnnnnnnnng wait, pre-registration for this year's biggest and craziest geek event, San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC), will kick off at 9 AM Pacific Time on Saturday, 8 February.

That's just a few hours away!

For the last few years, pre-registration (i.e. the time when people who had attended the previous year's SDCC try to get their passes online) have always been held before November.

This year, the online process has been scheduled unusually late - only 5 months ahead of the convention dates of 23 to 27 July.

Singapore Zombie Walk Returns - This Time At The Cathay!

The local zombies of the Red Dot Island variant have sure taken their time to shuffle across from Clarke Quay to Handy Road.

It has taken them about a year. Just nice for The Singapore Zombie Walk 2013 held on October 26th - a few days before Halloween!

The undead are expected to gather at The Cathay (Handy Road) and Red Dot Diva thinks they have managed to infect more humans in the span of one year. Last year's zombie infestation stood at 131. Early warnings have put the number to be a high of 500 this year.

A wonderfully scary thought indeed.

SDCC 2013: All Open Registration Tickets Sold Out!

Yes, they are ALLLLLLLLL GONE.

Online registration for Comic-Con badges was opened at 9am PST on 16 February. That was about 20 hours ago.

Within the hour of registration, all 4-Day + Preview Night badges were sold out, and a few minutes later, all 4-Day passes were gone too. Saturday 1-Day badges ran out shortly later and by after 10.15 am or so, all available passes were snapped up.

Compare this time frame last year, where passes were sold out within 7 hours. It is as if the Comic-Con passes are becoming to be more sought after than gold kryptonite!

Red Dot Diva was curious about the online registration process and decided to go through with it to see what the experience would be like. At 9am sharp, she clicked the "almost secret" registration link ("thanks" to a particular Comic-Con blog who posted the link publicly) but could not get into the online waiting room. The white page showed up and connection was spooling for a good 15 minutes.

After awhile, the message, "We are sorry, but the EPIC online waiting room has reached capacity and it is unlikely that badges are still available." Well, that's that then.

SDCC 2013: Countdown to Open Online Registration on February 16, 9am PST

This is it.

The most dramatic pre-comic convention event is coming in less than 14 days. On February 16th, 9 am PST, badges for the San Diego Comic-Con will go on sale!

Badges are only available during the day via an online registration site. The actual link of which, will be emailed to potential registrants at least 48 hours before.

Those who had passes for last year's convention were able to participate in the pre-registration in August 2012. A few of Red Dot Diva's friends were lucky to score badges for themselves then. As Comic-Con registration rules went, she was not able to get one at that time because she had a press pass last year.

There has been no further news about when returning press will be able to register for their passes, other than the opportunity being available in "Spring 2013". Red Dot Diva admits that the suspense is killing her. For one thing, there are international flights that has to be booked early! Argh!

Singapore Zombie Walk: The Zombie Apocalypse Is Coming!

You've seen it happening at other places.

Broken store windows. Empty towns; strings of cars left abandoned on a highway. A bloody trail.

Is that a ...... .... O_O

Then... the low moans. And the sounds of shuffling feet coming closer.... closer....

It is drawing near, people. The Zombie Apocalypse will hit the shores of Red Dot Island in 32 days and counting.

SDCC 2013 Pre-Registration: Did Passes Sell Out Again?

Making changes to the registration process is what Comic-Con's organizers tend to do in recent times.

After the insane long lines for registration in 2011 for 2012's passes, they have decided to do away with on-site pre-registration entirely.

Instead, people who had paying tickets for 2012's Comic Con, received an email informing them that online pre-registration would be held today, 4th August at 8 am PST, via their EPIC member login.

Many of Red Dot Diva's friends were poised nervously online, all ready to hit their fingers on the keyboard to join the almost Olympic sport of SDCC-registration.

SDCC 2012 Recap: Before The Madcap Geekout Began

The epic geekout week of 2012 was finally here!

However, as it turned out, Red Dot Diva's San Diego Comic-Con adventure began with an unfortunate 2-hr flight delay from Newark on Tuesday 10 July. As people waited impatiently to get on board so that they could get to be where they were supposed to, Red Dot Diva silently played "Spot the Nerds"... and she was right for most of them!

When she arrived at her San Diego hotel room about 9 pm, she found that it was already cozily filled with roomies - an international group consisting of a US West Coaster, a Kiwi, a (nice) Canadian, a token US East Coaster and a diva Red Dot Islander!

After a quick dinner downstairs, it was time to wind down and get ready for SDCC Preview Night. Before that happened, Red Dot Diva took some time to sync Thursday's plans with @eserei27. Trying to decide which Comic-Con activities to participate in has always been tough, but this year, it got even tougher!

SDCC 2012: The Insanity That Is Comic-Con Registration

Red Dot Diva knew that the assault on online registration day for SDCC 2012 was going to be crazy.

But having the passes selling out in less than an hour?!?!?!!

That's INSANE!

Last year, SDCC passes sold out in less than 7 hours and that was already unbelievable enough.

And the sell-out was despite of a glitch concerning the link which SDCC initially sent out to people. (as EPIC as always). That was resolved later and some people said the registration process was much smoother than last year's.

Quick-thinking and savvy fans who were not able to grab the 4-day w/ Preview or 4-day Passes then tried to get single day passes for each day. And some were successful.

SDCC 2012: Cancel All Plans! Stay By Your Computers!

A couple of days ago, the San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) folks sent out emails to everyone who has a Member ID advising them to keep watch about the opening of online registrations, which will be happening REAL SOON.

On their General Information page, they mentioned that "badge sales will begin sometime after the Comic-Con Member ID registration website closes on February 28th, 2012."

So, for those who haven't got a pre-reg ticket at last year's convention... it's time to get your act together and prepare to snap up those passes! CANCEL All Plans!! And Stay By your Computers!

Tickets do sell out *really* quickly. And there will be a very high probability that the servers may stall and get jammed with the insane amount of traffic.

SDCC 2012: Got Your Member ID Yet?

6 more months to SDCC 2012!

Those who have pre-registered at last year's SDCC should have already received their barcoded electronic ticket. They are basically just set to get their butts to San Diego during Comic-Con week!

For those who want to purchase a SDCC pass when tickets are available online later, the Special Red Dot Diva Reminder Service highlights that they will need to secure a Member ID first.

This new procedure also applied to those who have attended SDCC previously as press, professionals or trade professionals.

So it's crucial that you head to this page for your Member ID if you intend to be at SDCC this year. You'll have to get the ID before February 28!

SDCC 2012: Barcoded and Ticketed.... and other convention news

Nothing would make a geek girl's weary workday instantaneously brighter other than an email that begins with, "Dear Comic-Con Attendee, Your Comic-Con 2012 registration is complete!"

It sure made Red Dot Diva go W00t-Woot when she saw those sentences in her inbox this morning.

With that precious online 4-day ticket (with preview day), she's all nicely barcoded for entry to Comic-Con 2012 at San Diego on 11-15 July next year!!

What's left about SDCC 2012 is the major question about accommodation, as most hotels in San Diego say that they are "on hold" during SDCC week.

SDCC 2012 Pre-Registration - ID's and More ID's!

Red Dot Diva sighs. As if one hasn't got enough login ID's and passwords to keep track and remember!! SDCC has jumped into the "Member ID" scheme of things too!

For those who had lined up arduously overnight at this year's SDCC in order to pre-register for next year's event, please note this important message!!

Today is the day the pre-registration email was being sent out. They are being sent in batches, so do check your in-box for this very important email.

SDCC and NYCC - Hotel Registrations

Already one of the lucky buggers who got a SDCC 2011 ticket?

Soon, it will be time to figure out where one will be staying during that weekend! And start gathering your choice roomies!

Comic Con's online hotel registration opens on March 9th at 9 am PST. One can read the information and instructions here at Comic Con's website. The organizer is also offering a sneak peak of the hotel list and the special room rates on the same link.

Unlike last year, Red Dot Diva noted that one can now attempt to reserve up to 20 hotels for the weekend. Also, once the reservation is confirmed, one has to foot a deposit for at least one night's room + tax for each room booked.

Emerald City Comicon, Perhaps?

SDCC 2011 tickets may have been sold out. But for the true-blue comic and less mainstream pop-culture fans, there are still many other options where one can get a convention fix.

Coming up in less than a month, is Emerald City Comicon held at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle, WA on 4th to 6th March, 2011.

Red Dot Diva notes that the convention has some very cool celebrity guests like "Star Trek" veteran William Shatner, and well-loved convention guest James Marsters ("Buffy", "Angel", "Torchwood", "Smallville", "Caprica") and "Fringe"/ LOTR actor John Noble. Other actors are fan favourites Felicia Day, Wil Wheaton, Jonathan Frakes, Nicholas Brendon amongst some many others.

Comic Con 2011 Passes Sold Out!

Yep, Red Dot Diva nodded.
They have indeed been sold out.

And this all happened within 24 hours of the online ticketing process. The 4-day pass sold out in less than 3 hours after registration opened!

This is unprecedented in Comic Con history.

The process was wraught with problems from the start. Not that many were totally surprised due to the difficulties faced in previous attempts and a test-rehearsal. But Red Dot Diva guessed that many were still hoping that Comic Con and Ticketleap were truly able to iron out the server issues.

Comic Con 2011 Tickets On Sale - FINALLY!

After all the confusion and frustration regarding buying passes, SDCC 2011 tickets will finally be available for online registration on 5th February 2011, 9am PST. That's in about 12 hours folks!

A little bird (thanks @DarkStitch!) had already told Red Dot Diva about the ticket registration date and the news had leaked on the internet before the official announcement by the Comic Con organizers themselves.

5th February is a Saturday morning. So fans with usual work hours will have less complaints about needing to take time off to do the registration.
