1. Comic Week at BooksActually - April 10th

Local independent book store BooksActually will be holding Comic Week next Friday, April 10th, 7 PM at their 9 Yong Siak Street premises.

STGCC 2014: More Hot Guests Means More Hunky Biceps for Diva!

Just as fans were about to calm down from squealing after fan favourite Humberto Ramos was announced as one of STGCC 2014's guests, organizer Reed Exhibitions pumps up the adrenaline by adding 12 more names on the guest roll!

Returning to our shores will be one of Red Dot Diva's most favourite, most awesomely-bicepstuous artist and New Times Best-Selling writer - David Mack.

At last year's STGCC, David's booth was so hot it was radiating like red Kryptonite. Fans stood by for several minutes, just to admire at him drawing "live", and he sold off most of his books and art prints. Red Dot Diva would know - she was helping him out at his booth. Together with Eisner-Award artist Cameron Stewart, the two will be representing part of the team of "Fight Club 2" - a 10-issue graphic novel series just announced last week at San Diego Comic-Con.  "Fight Club 2" continues the story of the popular 1999 movie by Chuck Palahniuk which starred Brad Pitt and Edward Norton. David Mack will be cover artist for "Fight Club 2", while Cameron Stewart will pull his weight doing the story's artwork.

STGCC 2014 - Are Y'All Ready For The Red Dot Island Geek Fever?

It's June!

And that's just about the time when things start rollin' for the biggest local pop-culture event of the year - The Singapore Toy, Games and Comic Convention (STGCC)!

*glittery Diva happy dance*

This year, the convention will be at the same venue - the convention centre at Marina Bay Sands, and during the weekend of 6-7 September 2014, the entire area will be transformed into geeksville with cosplayers, nerds with geeky t-shirts and stressed-out crew running around making sure the event runs smoothly. Then, there are the creative folks making Artist Alley their mini kingdom for the weekend and lovely convention guests (usually first-timers in Red Dot Island and the South-East Asian region) who are all ready to meet their fans.

From what Red Dot Diva has been told, ticketing for the event will be announced and released for purchase in mid-June (which is very soon!). So she hopes those who are aiming for exclusives, have saved up enough cash to snag those VIP tickets!

SDCC 2012: Barcoded and Ticketed.... and other convention news

Nothing would make a geek girl's weary workday instantaneously brighter other than an email that begins with, "Dear Comic-Con Attendee, Your Comic-Con 2012 registration is complete!"

It sure made Red Dot Diva go W00t-Woot when she saw those sentences in her inbox this morning.

With that precious online 4-day ticket (with preview day), she's all nicely barcoded for entry to Comic-Con 2012 at San Diego on 11-15 July next year!!

What's left about SDCC 2012 is the major question about accommodation, as most hotels in San Diego say that they are "on hold" during SDCC week.

STGCC 2011 Day 1 - Before Doors Opened

When Red Dot Diva foggily woke up at 7.45 am Sat morning, she read a tweet from ReedPOP's Peter Tatara saying that a line for STGCC was already forming at Level 3 of Suntec. Then, she noticed that his tweet was sent an hour before she had even crawled out of bed!

When she arrived at the Suntec convention hall at 9.20 am, there was a line snaking round the 3rd floor towards the main escalators. This evidently showed the level of interest for this year's STGCC despite all the complaints and naysayers.

From the way, the hype has been going, Red Dot Diva was well aware that most of the early folks were targetting for Hot Toys' gorgeous limited edition exclusives - the 12" action figures of (Batman (Batman Begins)), Shadow Predator and Ironman Mark IV.

Who Is Coming To STGCC 2011?

That's the simple (and yet not so simple) question on everyone's minds.

Well, other than the ticketing prices, of course.

Finally, in a Straits Times article published this Thursday, Reed Exhibitions announced the ticketing information and two returning guests for the Singapore Toy Games and Comic Convention (STGCC) 2011. The convention will be held at the Suntec Convention Centre on August 20 - 21 this year.

Aspiring local and regional comic creators will be glad to know that Marvel's Senior Vice President, Creator and Content Developer and international travelling-foodie CB Cebulski will be back on the Red Dot Island. He will be spending more time reviewing portfolios and sharing with fans about Marvel's upcoming books.

The other familiar guest is Italian artist Simone Legno - a hot favourite with fans around the region. Thanks to his Tokidoki brand name. Simone will also be working on a limited edition "Zip and Cody" figurine just for STGCC 2011.

But who else will be coming here??!?

C2E2 2011 - More Geekery in Chicago

For those in the Midwest, C2E2 2011 will be back in Chicago with more geeky shennanigans on the weekend of March 18-20!

With a sub-theme of pop-culture + food, one of the highlights in this year's C2E2 is a special fine-dining date with some fantastic Marvel folks at Topolobampo, owned by Top Chef Master Rick Bayless. The Marvel guests are C.B. Cebulski (VP/ talent scout/ writer/ intrepid foodie), Brian Michael Bendis (comic creator) and Joe Quesada (Chief Creative Officer).

Red Dot Diva is already salivating at the thought of yummy nom noms, and she is sure that these guys make fabulous dinner company. Unfortunately, she will not be able to teleport herself to Chicago this March.

Comic Con Not Enough?

Well... Red Dot Diva says there's always DragonCon this weekend - the world's largest fantasy/SF convention - held in Atlanta, Georgia!!

Some of Red Dot Diva's friends will be there and rockin' the panels and photo sessions. With several guests like Adrian Pasdar ("Heroes"), Edward James Olmos ("Battlestar Galactica"), Morena Baccarin ("V", "Firefly"), Kristin Bauer ("True Blood"), Ben Browder, Brandon Routh, Lou Ferrigno, Stan Lee and many more, there should be some more blog reports to come in soon!

There is also the New York Comic Con (NYCC) coming up in October 8 to 10, 2010!

Meanwhile, things are ramping up for our very own fledging local geeky event - the Singapore Toy, Games and Comic Convention (STGCC).
