May The 4th SG 2022 at Suntec City - We're One With The Force
This year's May the 4th activities landed for 10 days from 7 to 16 May 2022 at the prime trade planet of Planet SuntecVIII.
After a lengthy blockade on trade and travel between certain sectors of the galaxy, it was really good to be able to meet up with various interplanetary allies again. On the 1st day of the Star Wars Day celebration, Red Dot Diva was happily reunited with her geek bro, Jedd and fellow geekstresses Jas and Gwen.
Together, they explored the sights in the various sections of the planet's city, like the impressive display of Star Wars Black Series action figures and LEGO builds at the West Wing. Over in the East Wing, the bustling marketplace offered creative toy photography prints by Plastic SG & Friends, and vibrant paintings by art collective DPLMT. Most of the items were available for sale, with net proceeds going to charity (KHH Health Fund).

It's A Trap! May The 4th Star Wars Day Lands on Suntec City - 7 to 16 May 2022!
On May the 4th, the entire galaxy will be celebrating Star Wars Day. This year, local fans will be eagerly gathering at Suntec City of Planet SuntecVIII, from 7 to 16 May 2022.
Based on intel gathered by her informants, Red Dot Diva found out that the Empire is eager to expand and set up a new base. She spotted a team of intimidating Imperial officers, stormtroopers and Mandalorians scouting Planet SuntecVIII a few weeks ago.
The planet is located at a popular trade route, making it home to several equipment yards and food markets. It also has a constant water supply, which, based on local custom, is a symbol of good fortune. And if one decides to let loose for awhile, there is a number of very alien-friendly cantinas to choose from. No wonder the Imperial officers seemed pleased with their scouting mission.

Visual Effects Artists from Lucasfilm Singapore Spill Some "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" Secrets
As part of the May the Fourth celebration earlier this month, Lucasfilm's Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) - whose regional headquarters is at the Sandcrawler in Red Dot Island - hosted a special hour-long panel at the Sports Hub Library about the Oscar-nominated visual effects (VFX) featured in "The Force Awakens".
Red Dot Diva has attended a few Lucasfilm ILM panels about their VFX work in other movies before, but never for Star Wars, due to the fact that "The Force Awakens" is the first Star Wars movie released after 10 years. Being an avid Star Wars fan, she could not pass up the chance on learning more about the magic that happened behind the scenes.
(Warning: If you think that knowing more about VFX work spoils your enjoyment of the movie, then *loud signal blares*... DO NOT PROCEED. Feel free to click here and read another article about what other fun things happened during the May the Fourth Celebration instead.)
The panel, moderated by Dominic Zou from 501st Legion SG, started off easily enough with an introduction of the four homegrown artists involved with the movie: Associate Production Manager - Pei'an Lau, Lead for Rotoscoping and Paint - JeanLe Koh, Lead for Texturing and Look Development - Elvin Siew and Animator - Zaini Jalani.

May The Fourth 2016: A Heartfelt Fan Celebration of All Things Star Wars
The gathering was not held on May the Fourth itself, since that will be a working Wednesday, and Red Dot Island fans are practical folks who do need to clock into their day jobs.
However, the May the Fourth event that kicked off earlier today at OCBC Square, Singapore Sports Hub, was a good way to get your Star Wars fix. At least until the next Resistance.

Local Star Wars Fans Swarm Suntec to Celebrate The Force!
Last weekend, Star Wars fans living in Red Dot Island celebrated May the 4th early at Suntec. The two-day event called "Celebrate The Force" was chock(hold)-ful of intergalactic activities like lightsaber fight performances, toy photographer workshops and various displays of art, toy collections and merchandise.
Red Dot Diva popped by the Suntec Atrium right after completing her FCBD run at GnB Comics on 2nd May. Judging by the constant flow of people at the venue, there are more Star Wars fans here on the island than one would expect. Pop-culture lovers, toy collectors, and several families with younglings milled around the area taking in the festivities.
To the right of the main stage was a long table full of personal collections of Star Wars toys, like these:

FCBD 2013: So What Will Be Happening On 4th May?
This year's Free Comic Book Day (FCBD), which falls on 4 May, seems to be more muted than last year.
Well, for one thing, Harris Planerds - hailed as the bookstore for geeks - closed its doors late last year. And there have been no early excited hints of well-known comic guests making appearances at stores like GnB or Invasion. YET.
That leaves Kinokuniya - the only other bookstore chain with a geek-worthy stock of graphic novels - to create some hype for FCBD. From the details released in Kinokuniya's April e-newsletter, one would have noted that they were the first to promote any kind of the local FCBD events at all!
The details of two FCBD related events held at Kinokuniya's main store at Ngee Ann City are:
