More guests have been announced for major local pop-culture event Singapore Comic Con (SGCC), which is scheduled for 7 & 8 December at Marina Bay Sands' Convention Centre.
Adding to the list of well-known comic book guests announced in the first round, like artists Greg Capullo and Jock, a few more interesting personalities will be joining the convention for a whirlwind weekend of meet and greets, and panels held live on stage.
Here are the latest guest announcements:
LIVIO RAMONDELLI
Livio Ramondelli is best known for his work on IDW's Transformers comics series, where he has done both covers and interior artwork. He is also a long time fan of the Transformers, so will be able to talk shop with fellow fans about the popular Autobots and Decepticons.
His other comic book work include Dark Horse's Star Wars series and Dynamite's Battlestar Galactica comics, as well as Pacific Rim for Legendary comics.
Livio Ramondelli's art style is detailed as well as cinematic, especially in terms of the lighting. So, Red Dot Diva is not surprised to learn that he has also worked on concept art for Victory Hill Productions’ upcoming Transformers Experience in Shanghai, DC Universe Online for Sony/DC Comics.
CREEES
Creees HyunSung Lee aka Creees for short, has over 11,000 followers on Twitch, where he regularly livestreams his art drawing sessions to his fans.
The freelance artist is currently working on Black Mask Studios' series entitled LAB RAIDER together with writer Matt Miner. LAB RAIDER is a scifi-horror story about two female vigilantes who strive to release animals captured for experiments from a laboratory. They later found that this was not just their "regular" animal rights activism and rescue. The conspiracies ran deeper than they expected, for the animals they are trying to save are being deliberately turned into violent, weaponised beasts.
Creees' vibrant art can also be seen in VAMPIRELLA (Dynamite Comics) and CAPTAIN CANUCK: YEAR ONE (Chapterhouse Comics).
JOEY SPIOTTO
Utterly adorable is how Red Dot Diva would describe Joey Spiotto's art style.
He has created fake book covers for little kids in the style of "Little Golden Book" with cute versions of characters from pop-culture, like Mulder & Scully from The X-Files, Edward Scissorhands, the crew from Guardians of the Galaxy, The Fifth Element, Alien, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and more. These various book covers can be enjoyed in a special compilation named STORYTIME: A LITTLE ART BOOK.
Joey Spiotto has also written a quirky cartoon book based on the popular Alien movie series called ALIEN NEXT DOOR, with the extra-terresterial trying his very best to fit in with his Earthly neighbours, and even having a pet cat Named Jonesy.
His upcoming book published by Scholastic Books, THE GRUMPY UNICORN: WHY ME?, features the grumpiest unicorn ever. Grumpy Unicorn will be frowning through each page as he shares what he dislikes (which is almost everything!), including travelling, holidays and party planning. Oscar the Grouch will have some serious competition when THE GRUMPY UNICORN launches on 3 September 2019!
PREMA-JA
It is always wonderful to see an Asian face who is making waves in the comic book/ manga world. One of them is Thai cartoonist and animator Prema-Ja.
Prema-Ja's short story comic SKY SKY, about a girl dealing with the death of her beloved pet dog, won the Grand Prix at the Silent Manga Audition in 2013. The next year, she took home the 2014 Gold Award at the International Manga Award for her heartwarming tales about a boy and his dog called BOKBIG.
In addition, Prema-Ja has 3 graphic novels by Fullstop publishing house. She even had a stint an instructor at King Mongkut’s University of Technology in Thonburi.
JIN (COSPLAYER)
Other than comic book writers and artists, SGCC has always placed emphasis on cosplayers too. This year, cosplayer and internet darling Jin from the Philippines, will be attending the convention to meet fans and inspire fellow cosplayers by showcasing a range of characters complete with detailed costumes and creative make up.
Some years ago, fans might remember Jin's life-like portrayal of Hiro from the animated Disney movie BIG HERO SIX, which went viral on social media.
Jin is currently working as a professional costume designer, and also had the chance to work on the international tour of the Lion King musical. Back in 2015, Red Dot Diva has met Jin once when she was a guest at the International Cosplay Day. Jin is an absolute charmer, so if you have always wanted to meet this talented cosplayer, don't miss out on getting tickets for the convention!
Based on the first two major rounds of guest announcements, SGCC seems to managed to roped in a more varied list of guests this year. Red Dot Diva thinks the guest line-up so far, appears to be livelier and more engaging compared to last year's, which was mostly a repeat of the previous year's.
Red Dot Diva has word that there will be more exciting guests to be announced in the coming months. Start gathering your squad now, and grab your SGCC tickets early!
