Slamcon at SDCC 2015 - Still Cool, Still Happening!!

After a long day of walking, standing, or just merely even waiting for panels or autographs at San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC), it is nice to finally have a party to go to at the end of the day to chill out, or to catch up with the friends you have not managed to meet yet!

And for all these purposes, Slamcon is one of the best parties at SDCC to hang out in! For those who are uninitiated to what Slamcon is, it is a free, all-inclusive party open to everyone, and the brainchild of a bunch of actors and comic creators - Todd Stashwick, Brea Grant, Dennis Calero and Deric A. Hughes.

Slamcon started in 2011 at the Hyatt Mezzanine with some of Red Dot Diva's good friends attending the party. (For a more detailed story, refer to the blog post here!) It was the year Red Dot Diva was not able to head to SDCC because she had just lost her day job.

She managed to attend SDCC and Slamcon for the next 3 years together with her convention buddies. During those times they attended the party, they have met all the Slamcon founders, actress/ writer Amber Benson, and last year, both Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins hung out at the shingdig too!

SDCC 2013: Catching Up with "Devil Inside" WebComic Creators Todd Stashwick and Dennis Calero!

Demons, a cannibalistic-fanboy, a Philistine giant with an infamous name and why not, the Devil himself.

Put them altogether and what you get is a free action-horror webcomic called "Devil Inside".

The good vs evil drama that come in full technicolour is the result from the vibrant imaginations of actor Todd Stashwick ("The Riches", "Heroes", "Revolution", "Supernatural", "Justified") and comic book artist, he-with-the-awesome-hair Dennis Calero ("X-Men Noir", Stephen King's "The Little Green God of Agony", digital "Legends of the Dark Knight: Riddler in the Dark" with writer Charles Soule).

SDCC 2012: Are You Ready to PARTY?

After walking the cavernous San Diego Convention Centre halls for hours (actually running would be more like it), tired out SDCC attendees usually decide to either crash on their beds at the end of the day, or quickly freshen up and camp out for the next day's events.

But for some "energizer bunny" type people, there are parties and more parties to go to!

Here are some of the parties that will be happening at this year's Comic-Con:

1. 38th Annual Comic-Con Masquerade Ball
Sat, July 14, 8:30 PM
Ballroom 20, San Diego Convention Center

This is an annual event and a key segment of Comic-Con itself. It is a talent competition specially for the folks who have spent days and months labouring on their costumes and skits.

NYCC 2011: Learning "Scary Tactics" From Dennis Calero

It has been more than a year since Red Dot Diva met artist Dennis Calero in person at SDCC 2010.

At the time, he was kicking off a web-comic called "Devil Inside" that he had created with his good buddy (and "Heroes" alumni) Todd Stashwick. Having built a loyal and growing fanbase in the last year, "Devil Inside" - a story about a famous demon who is trying to be a different (better?) being - is now in its second chapter!

Within the last year, Dennis also became a proud first-time Dad to an adorable baby girl. And he has also picked up a rather high-profile gig with Archaia/ Relativity Media for one of the stories in "The Immortals", an anthology graphic novel which is a tie-in to the Tarsem Singh-directed Greek mythology movie of the same name.

NYCC 2011: Diva's Stalking Schedule Is Shaping Up!

The NYCC 2011 countdown begins! Only 19 days away!!

And this week, the full panel schedule was finally announced, with some interesting ones that Red Dot Diva will definitely be targetting for.

As NYCC is still primarily a comic convention, it has (thankfully) not been inundated with too much Hollywoody stuff. But if one is so inclined, there are still some cool TV/ movie-related panels to check out!

This is Red Dot Diva's first time at NYCC, so she is trying to balance things out during the convention weekend and trying not to pack too events in her schedule.

However, there are particular panels that Red Dot Diva simply *will not* ... *cannot* miss.

Todd Stashwick - Springing Into Devil Inside's Next Chapter

It has been about a year since the free web-comic "Devil Inside" was launched at SDCC 2010 by the very handsome, very bromance-y team consisting of actor Todd Stashwick and artist Dennis Calero.

Red Dot Diva remembers visiting the duo at their booth at Artists' Alley in 2010, and was deviously hooked by the first couple of panels and the concept of the web-comic.

Released every Wednesday, "Devil Inside" faithfully took the readers through many twists and turns about a chief demon's journey to find himself on Earth. Starting from a place called Paradise Valley.

With its sometimes macabre visuals, mysterious characters (who can ever forget snarky Raven Corvus?) and cryptic hints, "Devil Inside" Chapter 1 has been a helluva ride!

SlamCon 2011 - An Inclusive Con Party!

Todd and the beautiful SArmy ladies!
Tired of not getting invited for all those hoity-toity exclusive con-parties during SDCC??

Then, there's always SlamCon!

"Heroes" actors and comic geeks Todd Stashwick, Brea Grant, comic artist Dennis Calero kick-started a casual party at the Hyatt Hotel, mezzanine bar at 9 pm last night! Together with them was "Warehouse 13" writer, Deric A. Hughes.

Many of Red Dot Diva's Twitter buddies like @Mabetini, @doubleshiny, @TsarMaxii, @beckyb731, @wikkibird, @TheReal_Rebel and @ebrown2112 joined in the geeky carousing, kicking it back with drinks and having a swell time with the crowd. Todd even called @Giddy4Gideon on the phone to say hi!

And there was even a great view of the fireworks at the marina! View Todd's twitvid where he and Brea say hi!

Other folks like "Heroes" producer Foz McDermott and writer Jose Molina ("Firefly", "Terra Nova") joined in later to party up with the rest too.

With such a laid back, easy-going mix of creators, celebs, well-known geeks and just down-to-earth fans, it's already becoming one of the best SDCC 2011 party ever. ;)

Red Dot Diva thinks that Todd, Brea, Dennis and the crew should try to do this for every convention they are at and get it to be is Devilish as possible.

After all, conventions are about having fun, meeting new people and making friends!!

PS: Don't forget to say hello to Todd and Dennis at their "Devil Inside" booth #FF-05 at Artist Alley. "Devil Inside" the webcomic was launched at SDCC last year, which makes this their 1st year anniversary!

Brea Grant will also be signing on Sunday with brother Zane Grant, Missy Suicide, David Hahn and Cameron Stewart for Suicide Girls at IDW's Booth #2643 at 12 pm!

Have an all-out geek-style FUN for Red Dot Diva, y'all!! *MWAH*!!

Archaia Goes Greek with "Immortals"

As a child, Red Dot Diva was besotted with the various stories from Greek mythology. They were abridged versions, of course, but whenever she saw a book about them at the old National Library, she nabbed it.

Not only were there all these weird and interesting gods, monsters and creatures, their world saw various heroes going through such wondrous and marvellous adventures that became fertile ground for Red Dot Diva's imagination.

When she grew up, she appreciated how hunky those Grecian warriors actually were. Which of course, added much meat to that growing imagination. Heh.

The epic blockbuster "Troy" in 2004 was a really good attempt in bringing back some Greek into Hollywood. Who can forget Eric Bana's gallantly sacrificial Hector? Red Dot Diva can't say the same about the recent Grecian heroes movie "Crash Clash of the Titans" though, which was an awfully loud let-down. BTW, no need to draw "300" into the comparison, because in Red Dot Diva's case, all those abs just simply blinded her sense of judgement. *g*

The Devil - It's Free!

"Be careful!" Red Dot Diva warns.

The Devil's on Earth and in our dimension. Is he intending to do more Evil?

Surprisingly, probably not! In fact, the Devil aka Jack Springheel seems bent on trying to find some form of redemption. Red Dot Diva wonders... will he succeed?? Can the Big Bad actually *be* good?

This interesting storyline with the Devil as "the leading man" is the main premise in a FREE web-comic called "Devil Inside". The web-comic series is created by a very charming, almost-bromantic partnership consisting of actor Todd Stashwick and well-known and award-winning comic artist Dennis Calero.
