Step Into The World of "The Little Prince" at The Fullerton Hotel in Singapore

The Little Prince at the Fullerton entrance
As part of Voila! French Festival that is currently underway, the organizers has placed the focus on a well-loved character "The Little Prince" from Antoine de Sainte-Exupéry's wonderfully-written and illustrated tale of the same name.

Red Dot Diva has heard of several people who say that "The Little Prince" is their favourite childhood story book. But she thinks that the story about the mysterious regal from Asteroid 325 is still relevant to an adult of any age.

Now, fans and new readers in Red Dot Island can venture into the world of "The Little Prince".

There are two exhibits held at The Fullerton Hotel. A third exhibit called "The Little Prince in the Dark" can be found at the Alliance Francaise.

Red Dot Diva visited the ones at The Fullerton last weekend. It is hard to miss "The Little Prince" because a beautiful sculpture of him and the Fox greets everyone at the main entrance of the hotel (i.e. the one with the revolving doors).

And if one is approaching the hotel from the underground tunnel, bright yellow planets and stars lead the way to the exhibit.

"The Little Prince" Sculpture Exhibit
There are 14 colourful sculptures in the entire exhibit at the East Garden Gallery.

These were fibre-glass reinforced resin pieces, all beautifully crafted by artist Arnaud Nazareth-Aga and Thailand-based PAJ’Art Studio, based on the illustrations by Antoine de Sainte-Exupéry in the book.

Red Dot Diva's favourite piece was the one showing The Little Prince, the Fox and Rose, so much so that she had to hear what the Fox had to say.

In addition, the Lamplighter's exhibit was brought to life with accompanying light display to show the many sunsets on that planet.

All the characters are featured except for one - the pilot himself. Why, one might wonder.

Well, as "The Little Prince" is widely considered as a semi-autobiography of Antoine de Sainte-Exupéry, part of his real-life story is told in another small exhibition in the adjoining Heritage Gallery.

Venue: East Garden Foyer Gallery, The Fullerton
Date: 4 May 2015 to 1 June 2015

Airmail Exhibition: Saint-Éxupéry & Latécoère

Did you know that Antoine de Sainte-Exupéry was also quite the adventurer and was an airmail pilot in the early 20th century?

In partnership with Antoine de Saint Exupéry Youth Foundation, a special exhibition featuring historical photos of aviation pioneers of the first French airmail company Latécoère - the forerunner of Aéropostale. These pilots include Antoine de Sainte-Exupéry, Mermoz and Guillaumet.

Other than these photos, the rare original letters, manuscripts and drawings by Antoine de Sainte-Exupéry are also on display. It was interesting to see the author in pilot fear and goggles standing in front of vintage planes in far flung places like Argentina and Morocco.

Even more illuminating were his handwritten letters to his friends, all with detailed coloured drawings.

Venue: The Fullerton Heritage Gallery, The Fullerton
Date: 4 May 2015 to 1 June 2015

Both exhibitions are utterly delightful and gives another visual dimension to the philosophical little story. The venues are open 24 hours, and admission is free. Don't miss visiting them!

Even better, the animated movie version of "The Little Prince" had its world premiere at the Cannes Festival recently! Still no opening date for local theatres, but Red Dot Diva is hopeful it will have at least a few showtimes.

The movie is directed by Mark Osborne (“Kung Fu Panda”), and an impressive voice cast that includes popular celebs like Jeff Bridges, Rachel McAdams, James Franco, Benicio Del Toro and Marion Cotillard.

    1. Hi there Azure, thx for reading the article!
      Valid question.

Diva researched and found out that Paramount Animation just recently announced their releases in the USA. (Via Deadline: https://deadline.com/2015/11/monster-trucks-spongebob-3-release-dates-paramount-animated-movies-1201617750/)
And The Little Prince is set for March 18, 2016. Seeing how Singapore movie releases like to mirror USA's, Diva is hoping we will have a release date around the same time next year too.

She will post and let everyone know if she finds out anything for sure!
