Netflix Goes Gore-ific With Upcoming Series "Hemlock Grove"

Blown Away was Red Dot Diva's initial reactions when she saw the latest sneak peek from "Hemlock Grove". The clip was released on IGN's website and then shown at a panel at Wondercon this weekend.

It was a werewolf transformation like she has never seen before.

Gruesome, bloody and yet, oh so beautiful. In fact, it was a painfully realistic transformation - if werewolves do exist in the real world.

"Hemlock Grove" is a new supernatural-murder-mystery set in a Pennsylvannia steel mill town, starring Famke Janssen, Bill Skarsgard, Landon Liboiron, Penelope Mitchell and Dougray Scott. The 13-episode series is produced by gore-meister Eli Roth and premieres on April 19, 2013, only on Netflix.

A young 17-year-old girl is found murdered near a steel mill and suspicions about who the culprit was fell on a few suspects, including a gypsy boy Peter (Landon Liboiron) who tells his classmates that he is a werewolf.

Eli Roth directed the pilot as well as the last two episodes, and his macabre touch in the werewolf transformation clip is one of his sexiest, smoothest and most confident yet. No wonder some people hail him as the Frank Sinatra of the Splat Pack.

The series is an adaptation from a novel by Brian McGreevey, who is also the writer and Executive Producer of the show. Always a good thing, because this helps ensure the integrity of the gothic monster mythology and its characters. The other co-writer and co-creator is Lee Shipman.

Here's another interesting news for horror fans out there. Nathan Barr - well-known for his original music on another blood-soaked series on HBO called "True Blood" - will be scoring for "Hemlock Grove". Nathan has worked with Eli Roth on other occasions in "Cabin Fever" and the first two "Hostel" films.

Red Dot Diva is not sure how those living in countries not served by Netflix would get their own taste of "Hemlock Grove". But she is sure hardcore viewers would be able to conjure their own magic spells to get their own brand of mojo.
