Rihanna Warp Drives into "Star Trek Beyond" with "Sledgehammer" - Music Video Debuts in IMAX Theatres 6 July!

Red Dot Diva digs some of mega pop star Rihanna's tunes from time to time, but when she heard her latest song "Sledgehammer" featured in the new "Star Trek Beyond" trailer, Diva thought it was such a perfect fit! Her sultry vocals in the haunting melody provided the other-worldly, uplifting feel that the Trek franchise is known for.

And, no wonder. Rihanna has double confirmed that she's a long time Trekkie, and "Sledgehammer" was specially written by Rihanna, Sia Furler and Jesse Shatkin for the "Star Trek Beyond" movie."This has been something that's been part of me since my childhood," said Rihanna



Her trippy music video, shows Rihanna in alien-like garb being a bad ass lady shaman in space. As the music soars to a climax, rocks rise from the ground, the Starship Enterprise makes its appearance, glowing orbs are conjured and at the end of the video, she transcends to become a celestial being with the stars.



"Sledgehammer" is the first music video to be filmed entirely with IMAX cameras. Directed by award-winning music video filmmaker Floria Sigismondi, the video was filmed using the revolutionary next-generation ALEXA IMAX® camera. The camera, which captures and delivers a high quality of images, was also used in the main battle sequences for "Captain America: Civil War".

To view the "Sledgehammer"in its glory, the video will debut in IMAX Theatres on 6 July! Red Dot Diva is not sure if that will happen on the same day here in Red Dot Island but watch out for it anyway!

"Star Trek Beyond", directed by Justin Lin of "Fast & Furious" fame, is the third installment of the Trek reboot by the team from Bad Robot with Paramount Pictures and Skydance. Simon Pegg and Doug Jung write the screenplay.

The movie is going to be a bittersweet moment for the cast, crew and fans due to the recent and untimely passing of young actor Anton Yelchin, who played Pavel Chekov for all three movies.

Current Spock aka. Zachary Quinto was a guest at "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert"on 1 July and said, "This has been absolutely devastating for all of us and I think our goal has to be just to celebrate his incredible life and honour him."



"Star Trek Beyond" opens in cinemas islandwide, with seemingly fewer lens flares but more adrenaline, on 21 July 2016. Red Dot Diva can't wait!
