Baby Undead Dragon and Bitemares! |
This is also where little devilish Vamplets kill you with uber-cuteness in mere seconds.
Gothic Gloomvania is one of Red Dot Diva's favourite places to escape to, especially at comic conventions. Their little hideouts at the creative toy section is always a joy to visit - even though there is a risk of Diva getting bitten by its awful residents.
Now, the Vamplets family is inviting mortals to partake in conjuring up more little terrrors , namely Baby Undead Dragon and 3 Bitemares!
There is currently a Kickstarter to hail their pesky arrival, and there's only 8 days to go! So Red Dot Diva urges you to click this link and join in to the support their new project! But only if you dare to!
During a recent frenzy of morbid dark thoughts, Red Dot Diva managed to interrogate talented Vamplets creator G-Ra (aka Gayle Middleton) about her collection of spooks:
Red Dot Diva: How long have you been channelling your inner Gloomvania, and which is the most challenging Vamplet to conjure?
Gayle: I started channeling them in 2006. Design-wise the first 6 original Vamplets that I “birthed” were the most challenging because I was trying to get just the right look and quirkiness, the right combination of cute, cuddly yet rotten-to-the core. The factory we hired to manufacture them thought I was insane because they could not understand the eye placement or the color shading. It was different than what they were used too. They really didn’t know what to make of them. It was a 3-year evolution to get the Vamplets the way I wanted them from 2006 to 2009 where I could finally say, “Oh, yes, this is really cute but creepy.”
Red Dot Diva: Tell us more about Undead Baby Dragon.. where did he emerge from?
Gayle: From Deathly Acres, the farmland of Gloomvania! Where else would you milk an Undead Dragon?
Red Dot Diva: Good point.

Red Dot Diva: Do different Bitemares cause different kinds of Nightmares?
Gayle: Yes they do! There are hundreds of Bitemares and the dreams they inspire are personalized for each baby. The baby’s LOVE these dreams. They could be teetering atop a high tower, not knowing if they were going to fall or not, the ground below covered with spikes. This dream would be for babies that have height nightmares, and while this might scare a mortal it would thrill a Vamplet. If you were a mortal with a fear of flying, the dream would be a horrific adventure of a flying creature swooping you up and dangling over an erupting volcano. Vamplets would think this is a great horrific adventure. That’s why I loved Gonzo from the Muppets. He was a crazy sadist who was in love with chickens but it was profoundly funny. My nightmare would be stuck in High School math class for eternity. Or maybe Chucky Cheese for eternity (does anybody know what that is anymore?) lol.
Red Dot Diva: Sounds delightful! And thumbs up for the Gonzo-love!
Red Dot Diva: Do confess. Have you a personal Vamplet favourite?
Gayle: I have 4 or 5. Lily Rose Shadowlyn the Vampyre Baby, and Mortis Van Kilt-the Third (the zombie baby) and the Zombie Guinea Pig were 3 of my favorites, but my new favorite is the Baby Undead Dragon.
Red Dot Diva: Where else can folks get a peek of Gloomvania? Which conventions will the Vamplets be terrorizing this year?
Gayle: There is our website (www.vamplets.com), as well as all the Graphic Novels with our publisher Action Lab Comics, which tell the tale of the Vamplets. We are also hoping to be at San Diego Comicon, and will definitely be at Dragon Con and NY Comicon.
Red Dot Diva: What else is coming up for the Vamplets and the realm of Gloomvania?
Gayle: We’ve been approached about an animation deal and that’s very exciting to us. And there is a new toy line I’m working on. Fans of Kickstarter and our website support my efforts to create new lines.
Red Dot Diva is absolutely dying to meet the new pet-terrors. She has an eye on that evil Purple Bitemare, who seems ready to pounce on her during bedtime. Best of all, Red Dot Diva thinks Purple Bitemare may just get worse when she sees her fellow playmates (see pic below):
If bad dreams and bloodthirsty critters are your thing, remember to support Vamplets' current Kickstarter. Or do look out for them online and at upcoming conventions!
