New York Comic Con (NYCC) just seems to get bigger and glitzier each year.
Red Dot Diva first attended NYCC in 2011, and the number of more TV or movie-related panels and guests have increased in the last two years.
Still, NYCC is a far more comics-centric convention compared to San Diego Comic-Con. The number of creators attending as guests in NYCC is any comic fan's wildest dreams. And the space set aside for Artist Alley is mind-blowingly huge, with rows and rows of comic artists eager to connect with people who are or will be interested in their work. Also, since NYCC has a far less hectic crowd than Comic-Con, the chances of one meeting and having more time with their favourite comic creators or artists are fairly high.
Check out the very LONG list of comic guests here!
The announcements for most of the celebrity guests, panels and screenings trickled in only a few months before the convention date. But once the schedule was announced in mid-September, it is a evident that the NYCC was going to pack quite a punch with the celebrity guest list.
CELEBRITY GUESTS
They include Star Wars' C-3PO Anthony Daniels, Star Trek's Sir Patrick Stewart and William Shatner, Chloƫ Grace Moretz, Sylvester Stallone, John Cosmos and Jerome Flynn from "Game of Thrones" as well as an X-Files reunion comprising of both David Duchonvy and Gillian Anderson!
Cast members of popular TV shows like AMC's "The Walking Dead", Starz's "Da Vinci's Demons", MTV's "Teen Wolf", CW's "Beauty and the Beast", NBC's "Person of Interest" and "The Following" - just to name a few - are slated to be at the convention as well. Many of the networks are promoting their new series too, like pirate adventure drama "Black Sails" (Starz) and documentary "Cosmos: A Space-Time Odyssey" (National Geographic/ Fox).
Movies being promoted include "Hercules: The Legend Begins" which stars Kellan Lutz in the lead role.
But the most exciting TV-related event for Red Dot Diva is a panel and a highly probable press slot for TNT's noir gangster series "Mob City". Mainly because the cast members attending the convention are all her favourites, and they are all very very bicepstuous. To help promote "Mob City", actors Ed Burns, Milo Ventimiglia and Robert Knepper are expected to be on site together with the series' creator Frank Darabont, and Red Dot Diva has been wanting to meet these men for a very very long time! ;)
SPECIAL SCREENINGS
As part of the promos for the upcoming TV series, those with Thursday tickets will get to have a sneak peak of "Almost Human" (Fox), "The 100" (CW) and "The Tomorrow People" (CW) at Empire Stage 1-E, 6:15 PM to 8:30 PM.
Red Dot Diva has already caught the pilots at Comic-Con, and she highly recommends that TV-watching fans do not miss sci-fi action drama "Almost Human" which stars Karl Urban and Michael Ealy. The production values and pacing is great and there is a really good chemistry between the two leads actors.
MARVEL & DC
On the exhibition and panel side of things, the big two comic publishers - Marvel and DC Entertainment - are all set to create more hype during the show.
With "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." picking up momentum on the silver screen, it is not surprising that Marvel's booth (#1354) will be Level 7-centric. Feel a little like Agent Coulson as you admire red-hot LOLA who will be on display at the booth. Fans can also pick up an exclusive "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." mini-poster at the booth while supplies last.
DC Entertainment, on the other hand, will be having 8 Superman costumes from movie and TV as part of the 75th Anniversary of Superman. The costume display will extend their presence at NYCC to the entryway of Javits Convention Centre!
The first issue of Neil Gaiman's "The Sandman: Overture" will be one of DC's main highlights. And this year, the company will also have a dedicated area in Artist Alley which will host over 50 creator signings. Creators listed as attending for DC-related panels include Scott Synder, Greg Capullo, Peter Tomasi, Charles Soule, Robert Venditti, Ivan Reis, and more!
THE NERD MACHINE
And as if all these news isn't exciting enough, The Nerd Machine announces their first foray into NYCC!! And it's sponsored by Intel.
The Nerd Machine's Nerd HQ has been wildly popular off-site hangout during Comic-Con, and for some time now, East Coast fans have been clamouring for it to make its way to New York. With Zachary Levi currently doing his first Broadway production "First Date", it made sense for The Nerd Machine to finally have its booth at the NYCC exhibition floor.
So don't miss visiting The Nerd Machine's booth at #638. There will be exclusive product, “Smiles for Smiles” photo ops and “Signings for Smiles” autograph sessions with your favorite NYCC talent that will all help to raise funds for Operation Smile (Note: Donations at USD 20 each).
And yes, Zac is expected to be at The Nerd Machine's ! Although, Red Dot Diva suspects that due to his performances for "First Date", it might be best to catch him on Friday.
Less than one week to NYCC 2013, and counting down fast.
Red Dot Diva simply can't wait to be there! 'Coz this year's East Coast's biggest pop-culture convention looks like its all set to wow attendees with a very exciting show!
