That's what Red Dot Diva remembers most from Ridley Scott's "Alien" movie series.
The first "Alien" movie was released when Red Dot Diva was only a diva-in-training and the part she remembered most was that classic, bloody chest-burster scene. Ewweggh.
And that one scene with the decapitated gurgling android Ash wasn't that pretty either. Double ewweggh.
As she got older (and more morbid), Red Dot Diva got over the gruesomeness of those key scenes and began to appreciate Ridley Scott's work in the "Alien" movie series more. The suspense and the FX employed at the time were pretty impressive. So was the grosteque biomechanical-styled art and designs of Swedish artist H.R. Giger used in the series. The Alien Queen's physical appearance was scary but elegant at the same time - the kind of beautiful monster one would love to run away from.
Moreover, Red Dot Diva liked the fact that the "Alien" series was feministic in nature. It bore down to a showdown between the tough proactive female space warrior Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) and the more primal and protective Alien Queen.
"PROMETHEUS"
After much speculation, Ridley Scott confirmed that his latest inter-galactic movie "Prometheus" is indeed set in the same "Alien" universe - albeit several years before the first movie. The cast for "Prometheus" boasts the latest crop of pop-culture's sexiest stars - Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Guy Pearce and Idris Elba. Now, that's a whole lot of ogling that Red Dot Diva plans to indulge in! Particularly, the sizzling hotness of Michael Fassbender.
It is difficult to escape the name of Michael Fassbender these days. One of the hottest hunks in recent times, Michael has been busy working in quite a few movies back to back. By lending his creditable acting chops in "Prometheus" as an android called David, he joins yet another iconic franchise (in addition to the already crazily popular "X-Men" series) that would bring his stardom to another level.
Then, there is Noomi Rapace, the Swedish actress with the steely gaze, who became a pop-culture icon after her attention-grabbing acting spot as Lisbeth Salander, the hacker-vigilante heroine in Steig Larsson's "Millennium Trilogy" books. Noomi stars as scientist Elizabeth Shaw in "Prometheus" and with that, she seems set for another strong female role under her belt.
The "Prometheus" trailer offered very limited dialogue except for cryptic snippets consisting of phrases ".. it's so wrong ... I'm so sorry" in the opening sequences. Against a suspenseful booming soundtrack, there were then a series of flash scenes of horrified looks and screams, and people in space suits running away from falling structures, debris and possibly... alien creatures?
Red Dot Diva thought it was a thrilling and scary trailer that promised more gore and horror in space, befitting of the earlier "Alien" movies.
And here's something else for "Alien" fans to squee about. H.R. Giger will be back working on "Prometheus". Red Dot Diva can't wait to set her eyes on more of Giger's stunning visual imaginings in the movie. There are already hints of these designs from a promo pic that was recently released, which showed two Space Jockey-esque figures. Will the prequel reveal more about these alien beings? Red Dot Diva is vibrating with anticipation.
"Prometheus" is currently in post-production and has been set for a June 8, 2012 release date.
