Nostalgia seems to be a popular currency these days, with reboots or shows that evoke memories of years past. Such examples include Roswell, Charmed, Cobra Kai, and the Friends Reunion. The latest toss into the pot is GOSSIP GIRL, the 2007 CW teen drama that ran for 6 seasons.
The original GOSSIP GIRL boasted of a cast of gorgeous actors, and the series helped boost the careers of many of them. Lead actor Blake Lively went on the star in movies like The Age of Adaline, The Shallows and A Simple Favour. She is currently married to A-lister and Deadpool himself, Ryan Reynolds. Co-star Leighton Meester married Adam Brody and besides acting, she carved a career as a musician, Broadway actor and social media influencer.
The tall, dark and handsome Penn Badgley went into the music scene after the series ended, and inevitably caused hearts to stir again when he starred in the 2018 Netflix series You. Chace Crawford is currently starring as The Deep in The Boys, Amazon Prime's take on superheroes gone bad. And not forgetting, THE Voice of Gossip Girl herself, Kristen Bell, who remains a constant geek's favourite with lead roles in Veronica Mars and The Good Place as well as providing the voice as Princess Anna in Disney's Frozen.
But out of the many guest stars in the series, Sebastian Stan, aka The Winter Soldier, aka Bucky Barnes, has become such a fan favourite of comic book and MCU fans around the world.
And now, a new generation of the young, rich and powerful elites of New York City's Upper East Side, is getting ready to cause more trouble in HBO's GOSSIP GIRL. Set 8 years after the original series, the 2021 version stars another batch of hot actors for you to love and/or hate - Jordan Alexander, Eli Brown, Thomas Doherty, Tavi Gevinson, Emily Alyn Lind, Evan Mock, Zion Moreno, Whitney Peak and Savannah Lee Smith.
Expect to be caught in a world awashed with luxury, with snooty characters attending exclusive prep schools, living in expensive homes and strutting in their glamorous designer wear. Fans of the original series would be happy to know that The Gossip Girl (Kirsten Bell) has not let up on her spy game all these years, as she continues to spill the tea on the complicated and often scandalous relationships. This time, however, she is creating trouble on Instagram, instead of the blogosphere.
GOSSIP GIRL will premiere same time as the U.S. on Thursday, 8 July 2021, exclusively on streaming service HBO GO.
