Red Dot Diva nervously scrolled down the list and OMG... guess who won Best Writer/ Artist?? It is none other than our very own Sonny Liew, for this work on "The Art of Charlie Chan Hock Chye"!
This is the first time a Singaporean had won an Eisner. She did a Diva Dance of Joy!

But wait, there was more! Sonny Liew also won Best US Edition of International Material - Asia and Best Publication Design! What a night for local and South-East Asian-based creators!

Earlier this week, Red Dot Diva had half-joked on Facebook that all Sonny Liew fans will take a drink every time Sonny bagged an Eisner this weekend. A cautious Sonny, not wanting to jinx the entire thing, had replied saying he would drink every time he didn't. Now that Sonny has won 3 out of his 6 Eisner nominations, it's totally appropriate that everyone can DRINK UP and celebrate!

By the way, Sonny Liew was the most nominated for this year's Eisner, and even though the other awards - Best Coloring, Best Lettering and Best Graphic Album went to other equally awesome creators - his win is such an achievement and a solid testament that intellectual, layered and unique story-telling can cross cultures and geographical boundaries.
Take that, NAC!
If you haven't already read "The Art of Charlie Chan Hock Chye", you are missing something sublime, beautiful and special. Go grab the book published by Epigram, which is currently available at local bookstores, and then meet Sonny Liew in person at the upcoming Singapore Toy, Game and Comics Convention (STGCC) held on 9-10 September at Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre. Sonny Liew has been announced as a guest at STGCC and he deserves a hearty round of kudos from the fans during the event.
Big Big Congrats, SONNY! So proud of you!
You have put our Red Dot Island on the world map and showed the rest we are more than just chewing gum laws and atas infinity pools.

To play catch-up, click here for Red Dot Diva's run down of events at Sonny Liew's Meet the Author session at Kinokuniya's flagship store in 2015. At that time, "The Art of Charlie Chan Hock Chye" had just been published and the book-loving fans were lapping it up!
