Three Squee-worthy Movie Trailers: #1 - "The Dark Knight Rises"

Is there a Geek Fairy Godperson somewhere in an alterna-universe?

There must be.

As part of year 2011's wrap-up, a festive package of new movie trailers were released online, one after the other.

Red Dot Diva's heart pounded the hardest for these three movie trailers - "The Dark Knight Rises", "The Hobbit" and "Prometheus". She unbashedly admits that she squee-ed when she watched the trailers for the first time last year. And she squee-ed a few more times when she watched them again.

The fact that it is now 2012 doesn't make these trailers less exciting. AHHHhh!

"THE DARK KNIGHT RISES"

Watching this long-awaited trailer was bittersweet was Red Dot Diva. On one hand, she was excited to see what the latest Batman movie would be like. On the other hand, the fact that this will be Chris Nolan's and Christian Bale's last take on the moody Caped Crusader made Red Dot Diva feel quite wistful.

The trailer opened with the same scene as a previously shown teaser - that is, the one showing a young boy singing the USA national anthem in a haunting voice. This quickly gave way to a drone of ominous chanting as background audio, which accompanied flashes of a masquerade ball and a violent prison outbreak, culminating to a big explosive scene at a football stadium followed by a series of fight scenes involving Batman and some uniformed men.

Red Dot Diva noted the visual introductions of new characters, like Catwoman (Anna Hathaway), an original made-for-movie character Miranda Tate (Marion Cotillard) and John Blake (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), as well as the return of familiar faces - Alfred (Sir Michael Caine) and Commissioner Gordon (Gary Oldman).

Through all the excitement about the trailer, there was one thing that stood out. Finally... one gets to hear movie's main supervillain Bane's (Tom Hardy) voice. Or maybe not.

In a low barely-audible muffled voice, Bane warned Bruce Wayne, "when Gotham is ashes, you have my permission to die". It was just one line, but it was a line that fueled a fury of fanboy complaints about how Bane sounded more like Mumbly (remember that Inspector dog from the Hanna-Barbera cartoon?) than a brutal hulk of a villain.

Realistically speaking, wouldn't anyone sound like this when wearing a mask like Bane's? Then again, Bane could start this whole new fad for doing bad things with a sexy low manly mumble. Yes/ No?

Well, it seems that the fan objections may have more volume. There have been rumours that a very reluctant Chris Nolan had recently decided to remix the audio for Bane's voice, although that has been adamantly denied by Warner Bros.

Ooh. The Dark Intrigue.
