Disney's "Beauty and the Beast": The Giant Rose in Bell Jar at Raffles City and other Limited Edition Product Collaborations

It's time to countdown to the live action movie of Disney's "Beauty and the Beast", which will launch at Red Dot Island movie theatres on 16 March 2017.

The movie stars Emma Watson as Belle, Dan Stevens as the Beast, Luke Evans as Gaston, Josh Gad as LeFou, amongst many others including Emma Thompson as Mrs Potts and Sir Ian McKellen as Cogsworth.

Ever since the animated movie back in 1991, the image of a red rose in a bell jar has become synonymous with "Beauty and the Beast". In the original movie version - which Red Dot Diva could watch over and over again - the enchanted floating rose represented a clock, a visual reminder of what beauty really means, counting down to the end of the spell placed on the Beast, when he would return back to human form if he found everlasting love by his 21st birthday, or forever remain as a monster. Of course, for the romantics, the red rose is also a symbol of true love.

From now till 26 March 2017, fans can revel in the larger than life Rose and Bell Jar on display at Raffles City mall.

There are also a few lifestyle brands, namely Skin Inc, Collate The Label and Carrie K Jewelry, who have collaborated with Walt Disney Company Southeast Asia to market these exclusive products based on the "Beauty and the Beast" movie.

So if you are into retail therapy for such items, here are what you can look out for at the stores:

Skin Inc

The Limited Edition Beauty and the Beast Get Glowin’ kit, which comes in a yellow bottle inspired by Belle's ballgown, is a unique brightening serum which would improve tone and texture of skin. It also includes Skin Inc’s Patented Japanese seaweed encapsulation technology that would enhance the delivery and activation of the serum upon contact on skin.

With every sale of Limited Edition Beauty and the Beast Get Glowin’ kit, Skin Inc will donate $10 to the Singapore Committee for UN Women.

The kit will be available from March 2nd at Skin Inc concept stores, Sephora stores islandwide, Sephora.sg and Zalora.sg for SGD $169. You can also pre-order the sophisticated looking kit online at their website, iloveskininc.com!

The range of clothes are available for purchase from mid-April online at www.collatethelabel.com, as well as at TANGS Orchard, level 2.

Carrie K Jewelry

The brand creates masterfully artisan-crafted jewelry with style and a sense of storytelling.

In a blog on their website, the brand gave some insights as to the direction they were going with the "Beauty and the Beast" project. Red Dot Diva checked out some teaser pics of their collection and thinks their interpretation of the fairy tale was excellent! They really focused on the main theme of the story, which was about looking beyond the surface to find beauty within. For instance, using jagged teeth-like shapes of the Beast as a ring or pendant is such an innovative idea.

There are 15 jewelry items in the collection, including earcuffs, earrings, necklaces, bracelets and rings. Crafted in sterling silver and plated with 18K gold, the price ranges from SGD$98 for a Tooth White Pearl Ring to SGD$398 for the Teeth White Pearl Drop Necklace in Rose Gold.

This retails at SGD$98 or SGD$216, as a bracelet set, and with every charm purchased, Carrie K. will donate a 10% of proceeds earned to the Singapore Committee for UN Women for the #HEFORSHE initiative.

The Disney X Carrie K. Beauty and the Beast collection will be launched on International Women’s Day on 8th March 2017

Their store is located on the second level of National Design Centre, and it is all decked out to celebrate the launch of the product line as well as the movie. Red Dot Diva is curious enough to see the jewelry designs and hope to head to the shop soon to check them out personally!

Swarovski

Over 2,000 Swarovski crystals have been used in the costumes and set design for "Beauty and the Beast", including the belljar as well as Academy Award-winning costume designer Jacqueline Durran’s design for Belle’s gorgeous yellow dress.

For hardcore collectors, a range of limited edition stunning crystal decor items like the 40% replica of the enchanted rose, placed in a hand-engraved bell jar. WOW.

As you can see, the merchandising for "Beauty and the Beast" is undoubtedly targetted towards the young female audience. The items are generally too feminine for Red Dot Diva's personal tastes. She was hoping for a little more focus on Belle's nerdy, bookworm-iness, but if the products help to open up more discussions about empathy and acceptance about different kinds of beauty, then she believes they have done their part. A couple of these brands are also owned by female designers and entrepreneurs, which meshes well about the femininity, resilience and strength.

No new action figures have been announced from what Red Dot Diva can tell. There is LEGO's exclusive Brickheadz figurines for Belle and the Beast, but she did not see any other more gender neutral collectibles. Drop her a note if you spot any! (Also, dear Lego, please do a new Disney series or launch a couple of Beauty and the Beast 2017 sets and minifigures!)

Red Dot Diva cannot wait to see how the live action movie will fare on her consciousness. As one who adored the animated version, the comparison between the two is going to be inevitable. Already, the updated Ariana Grande/ John Legend's interpretation of the iconic theme song does not sit well with her aurally and emotionally. Then again, her generation is not who Disney is aiming for in this live action movie either!

Whether you are young or old, Disney movies are usually a delight, and by looking at the wonderful trailer below, Red Dot Diva thinks she will enjoy it quite a lot!
