FX's New Series "American Horror Story" - Diva Gets Deviantly Curious

A kind of tingly anticipation has been buzzing around a new FX series ever since the pilot written by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk was ordered and announced earlier this year. For those who are not familiar with those two names, Murphy and Falchuk are the creators of the musical comedy series "Glee" as well as "Nip|Tuck".

Their new "psycho-sexual thriller" which premieres on 5th October at 10 pm, is called "American Horror Story" - a tale consisting of freakish horror dreamscapes that befalls the Harmon family, who have moved from Boston to a big retro 1920's haunted mansion in sunny LA.

Red Dot Diva is not quite sure why anyone would want to buy a house where several violent deaths have occurred... but who is she to judge? And if the Harmons were that practical-minded, there would not be all these otherworldly going-ons happening in "American Horror Story".

And by otherwordly, Red Dot Diva silently points her readers to that fully-latexed human in the poster above. Based on the the show's teasers, Mr Kinky-Rubbersqueak does make some very sudden spooky appearances. Just imagine *that* unexpectedly appearing from a corner of one's bedroom! Eeks.

The Harmons consist of Ben (Dylan McDermott) a psychiatrist, Vivien Harmon (Connie Britton) with typically emo teenage daughter, Violet (Taissa Farmiga). The family have escaped to LA in an attempt to heal from Ben's indiscretions with a younger woman.

But with so many people around them urging them to leave the house, "emotional healing" is definitely not going to be smooth-going.

Red Dot Diva is not quite sure where this modern gothic-like story might be going but the teasers definitely captured her imagination. There is also a deliciously warped twist concerning the Harmon's housemaid. Is Moira a sexy stockinged vixen (Alexandra Breckenridge) or a reserved genteel old woman (Frances Conroy)??

To be honest, Red Dot Diva senses that the series tends to give a "I am too cool" vibe, but she is still deviantly curious as to how Dylan McDermott (who was usually serious-poe-faced in "The Practice") is going to fare in the tormented role of Ben, amidst of all the strange and kinky going-ons. Then, there's the return of the eternally beautiful Jessica Lange to the TV screen as the Harmon's neighbour, Constance. Red Dot Diva wonders if she will be able to make her screen presence felt in this series.

In addition, there is the bicepstous incentive of Zachary Quinto appearing in "multiple episodes" of the show as Chad, "the gay former owner of the house who becomes friends with Vivien". Red Dot Diva has to (very impatiently) wait awhile for Zach and his famous eyebrows to appear on the series though. His character is not expected to show up till the series' two-part Halloween episode scheduled to air October 26th and 30th.

Guess Zach alone is reason enough for her to watch "American Horror Story" till then!

Unfortunately, Red Dot Diva will be making her way across the Pacific Ocean to LA in an unusually cramped position when the show premieres. But she is certain she'll be able to catch it soon - one way or the other.

If you have watched the premiere, do fill her in what you thought of "American Horror Story"!
