NerdHQ At SDCC - Off-site Stomping Ground For The Geeks

What’s better than San Diego Comic Con (SDCC)?

Well, pretty much nothing that I can think of, but this year Zachary Levi from "Chuck" is going to try to provide us with a little off-site excitement. As fans of Zac probably already know, he is a huge geek. Like, first degree nerd. Which is probably part of the reason his fans love him so much.

He started The Nerd Machine, an online community where nerds from all over the world can come and geek out about the things that they’re most passionate. In addition, the can purchase NERD gear to let everyone know that they’re nerds and proud of it!

Now this year, Zachary Levi is taking his show on the road, and is bringing the Nerd Machine to SDCC! ! In addition to all the regular goings-on and panels at the convention center (including the "Chuck" panel on Saturday, July 23 at 10 am in Ballroom 20), Zac is establishing a Nerd Headquarters (NerdHQ) at Jolt'N Joe's Restaurant.

The focus will be gaming, entertainment, and technology in a small, more intimate environment that SDCC itself. (Check out Nerd HQ's official website for details.)

Perhaps the most exciting thing to be taking place at NerdHQ, at least to my fangirl sensibilities, is the “Conversations for a Cause” that will be held there. There will be panels held at NerdHQ featuring stars from entertainment and technology. These will be smaller panels than those held at SDCC, thus giving fans a more intimate experience. In addition, they will be followed by autograph sessions.

According to the NerdHQ website: “ ‘Conversations’ will include stars from “Firefly,” “Battlestar Galactica,” “Stoopid Monkey” and friends of Zac Levi.”

And one of those friends of Zac Levi? A hot favourite Zachary Quinto!!! ZQ will be doing a panel on Friday at 1pm with his Before the Door partners, Corey Moosa and Neal Dodson, together with publishing partner, Archaia. The panel will include the creators of the graphic novels "Mr Murder Is Dead" (which will be launched during SDCC) and "Lucid". More details can also be found at the Archaia's own website.

While the NerdHQ itself is free of charge, the “Conversations” panels will require a minimum USD20 donation. But don’t fret, because it’s all for a good cause! One hundred percent of your donation goes to Operation Smile, an organization that “provides free surgeries to repair cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial deformities for children around the globe”.

So come out, see some of your favorite stars, enjoy some geek camaraderie, and while you’re out, help some children learn how to laugh and smile!
