NYCC, which will be held at the Jacob K. Javits Center in Midtown Manhattan on October 13-16, 2011!
If one has missed the exciting news, the Guest of Honor for this year's NYCC is acclaimed writer Robert Kirkman!
Robert Kirkman, an Eisner Award-winning creator, is well-known for "The Walking Dead" and "Invincible". Last year, AMC picked up the "The Walking Dead" story for their TV series and the show has proved to be an enormous hit with many new and old fans alike.
Red Dot Diva knows that zombie lovers will be glad to know that as special guest, Robert is slated to attend panels, appear at the Image Comics booth on the show floor and other activities, details of which will be revealed at a later date.
Mike Mignola, best known for his work on "Hellboy", has also been announced as NYCC 2011's Spotlight Guest. Other guests include NYC homeboys - Ivan Brandon ("NYC Mech", "Viking") and artist Cliff Chiang ("Human Target", "Detective Comics"). Check out the preliminary guest announcement list here!
The NYCC organizers have also been asking folks to send in guest, panel, event ideas to #nyccwishlist. They will put the requests into consideration for discussions with their team! So, go ahead and send tweets to them if one has an interesting suggestion!
Also, press accreditation is now open for media folks. Red Dot Diva just submitted hers for NYCC and hopes she might get a press pass. Because of her job situation, she is still unsure of the chances that she will actually get to NYC in October, but she will be trying her darnest to!
Red Dot Diva had blogger previously that STGCC is now held at the Suntec International Convention and Exhibition Centre, on earlier dates - August 20th and 21st (Sat/ Sun). Apparently, this is a better convention time because most folks tend to go on holidays during December, and also, companies are putting up product launches during the August period.
To assist with the planning for more of that special East-West mix of STGCC programming, NYCC veteran Peter Tatara (Director of Industry Development from ReedPOP), and Mike Armstrong (Sales Manager for NYCC, C2E2, Star Wars Celebration and STGCC) will be returning to Red Dot Island for a short while!
It seems they will be back to embrace the classic Red Dot Island humidity on May 30th. Who is prepared to buy these two guys lots of cold beer? :D
Regarding STGCC guest announcements, Red Dot Diva bumped into one of the local Reed folks at At FCBD two Saturdays ago, and nosily enquired about this oft-asked question.
She was told that the guest list has more or less been firmed up. When pressed about when the guest announcements will be made, the mystic answer was "Soon. You all will have to wait for it."
Oh, and BTW, ticket sales for STGCC will open by July 2011.
So, while one is waiting in eager anticipation for who's coming to our Red Dot Island this year, go visit the revamped STGCC website and keep a look out for the latest news!
